Very true about the Packers. Remember when no team could go into Lambeau and come out with a win?
I'm feeling a little better today. I jogged across the parking lot this morning and did not feel nearly as badly as yesterday. No acute pain, just a dull throbbing unless I turn or bend the wrong way. I really want to run today. It's snowing to beat the band today. The call is for up to 6 more inches. Plus its windier'n hell and 17 degrees. If I decide to try it, I would have to go to the gym.

7.25 mile treadmill run w/ 30 sec intervals (10 ea)
1:00:00 (8:17 avg pace)
Each interval was 30 seconds long with approx 20 sec @10.5 mph (5:43 pace). Rest 1:30 @6.5 mph (9:14 pace)
Screw being injured. Actually, while running I didn't even notice my back. I'll take that as a good sign. I don't know if I'll be able to lift with it tomorrow, however.

You didn't want to run outside in the mini blizzard we had this afternoon?
Your running pace was faster than the traffic on 131 northbound this afternoon.

It's still coming down!! How much are we supposed to get?!?!? I saw the traffic while watching the news this evening. I'm glad I leave downtown in the early afternoon.

They say we are only supposed to get a couple inches, but I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with another 4-6" before morning. At least tommorow during the day it is supposed to let up before it starts late tomorrow night.
Traffic was a pain - no one was moving. There weren't any accidents, surprisingly enough, just slow movers.

Hell, I bet we got 6" up here in Sparta today. As for the places where it drifted- I've got over a foot and a half on my patio!
The hour I was in the gym more than an inch of snow covered my car. As for the traffic, people will remember how to drive in it soon enough.
Oh well. It is December. In Michigan.

FOX17 said that some places (more in Van Buren, Allegan and Berrien counties) could get 12" on Thursday.
If the snow gets any deeper my dogs will have trouble going in the back yard - and they are pretty big dogs too!
And the saddest thing: it isn't even winter yet. How frickin' wonderful. I hate snow.

If it stay ssouth, that's fine. I've got to drive north on Friday.
I hate snow as well. And the Red Wings. What am I doing in Michigan?
BTW. What kind of dog is that? He's beautiful. Some sort of Lab? I don't know a heckuva lot about dogs.

Haha you are definitely in the wrong state - how the hell did you become a fan of all the teams not even remotely located in MI?
He is a wiemaraner. I actually have two - the one in my avator is Sabre, my big one. He is 5 1/2 yrs old and is around 100 lbs - pretty tall too, I am 5'7" and he can stand on his hind legs and look me in the eyes. The other one is Molly, she is only 50 lbs and is a year younger.
Most people think they are either labs, or in the case of Sabre, thinks he is a great dane because he's so big.

I grew up in Minnesota liking the local teams. When the North Stars left, I pretty much gave up on hockey until I move to Coloardo after getting out of the Army. The Avs were so good at the time I couldn't help supporting them. (Plus, a girl I was dating really liked them.) I moved to Michigan when my ex got out of the Army so to be nearer my daughter. The Avs won the Cup that year and while I still had Colorado tags on my car, it was vandalized. Nice Red Wings fan.

Sorry to hear about the car - Red Wings fans can be a little zealous sometimes. I am Michigan born and bred, lived here for all of my 26 years except for the 2 years I was in the Air Force. Never thought I'd move back but I figured I rather be poor and alone in MI near my family than poor and alone in Maryland.

NROL Break-in program
sets x reps x weight
Workout A1-2:
Straight sets:
Squat – 2 x 15 x 135
Superset:
Lunge – 2 x 15(ea) x 45
DB row, elbow out – 2 x 15(e) x 45
Superset:
Push-Up – 2 x 15 x BW/ feet elevated on swiss ball
Swiss-Ball Crunch – 2 x 20 x BW+ 20
My back's kind of sore but not too bad. I just couldn't stay out. I went back to day one weights and promised to stop if I felt anything bad. All went well. I did change the pushups to elevated and added weight to the crunches. I'm worried how my back will feel for deads on Thursday.
Easy 8 miles tomorrow. Hopefully we don't get any more snow between now and then and I can run it outdoors.

I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself right now, but I'm wondering what to do next May as far as racing. So far I'm registered for the Indy Mini on May 5th and plan to do the Bayshore Marathon three weeks later on the 26th. However, thrown in there is the big local 25k on the 12th, two weeks before the marathon. I only bring this up right now because I was reminded of it by a training schedule for the 25k I got in the mail yesterday.
So, should I even consider running the 25k? Indy is a goal race that I actually want to race to get an idea of where I stand for Bayshore. Maybe I could just "run" and not race the 25k. The Plan does call for a LR of 15-16 that day. Should I postpone the marathon to another a couple weeks later? Should I not worry about it right now and just try to get through the winter alive? Dave, I think taper madness may be contagious.

I'll be there. Hows that for peer pressure! Actually, if you do it as a long slow run, and I race it.... you'll still spend the entire race in front of me
Why would you need to postpone the marathon? Is there another one a reasonable distance away in the spring? Our part of the world doesn't have a lot of spring Marathons. Besides, the Bayshore marathon looks cool.

That's a lot of races. You probably won't have any problems physically if you treat the 25k as a training run but mentally it may be stressful. Doing a half, then a 25k run so close to the marathon might not give you the time to mentally prepare for the marathon. I know you had a tough go with the cramps at your last marathon so that will probably be weighing on you as well.
Just a thought...

Wow, I was surprised to see you back in the gym already doing squats! I thought for sure when you dinged your lower back, that was going to take some time to heal. Do you think you tilted too far forward on the 15x155? That's the problem with high-rep stuff. It's really easy to lose the form trying to reach the prescribed reps.
I agree about the 25K being okay as a training run. Will you be able to run it as a training run, or will race fever take over?? Volunteering at the 25K might be an alternative if you just want to be around the big local race. Maybe you can hand out water to MissDee! I think I'm going to volunteer at our local marathon and half in Feb. because it's only 2 weeks after my 50K. I could run the half as a non-race thing, but I'm afraid I would get swept up in it and possibly have consequences to pay.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
Dee- I don't think I'll postpone the marathon. I just would really like to run the Riverbank again.
Jeff- It is a lot of racing. As for the cramping, I hope to have a little more favorable weather (at least I won't overdress) in May as well as have a better week of nutrition leading up to raceday.
Dave- I believe leaning forward was exactly what I did. I felt it once doing squats when I did them yesterday. When that happened I noticed I was leaning forward.
As for running the 25k as a training run- I don't know that I could hold myself back. Volunteering is an interesting idea. If I were to run it, breaking two hours is my benchmark. (I ran 1:53:xx this year and if I were to race it, I'd shoot for breaking 1:50:00) Maybe, to keep me from trying to set a PR and running too hard, I could pace someone who wants to run a 1:59:59. (You get preferred seeding by breaking 2:00:00)
