Talk about an ibuprofen morning. The ankle I sprained way back in December has been pretty sore after my races and long runs this past month or so. This morning is no exception. I'm definitely going to shorten my run up for this afternoon.

09OCT06
scheduled: 11 miles @8:06
actual: 5.67 miles
42:45 (7:32 avg pace)
splits:
1.11 miles - 8:51 (7:58)
2.14 miles - 7:55 (7:41)
3.79 miles - 12:48 (7:45)
4.88 miles - 8:12 (7:31)
5.67 miles - 4:56 (6:14)
Well, like I said this morning, I cut this one way back. In fact for the first couple miles I thought about quitting and walking home. I had thought about doing my 9.3 mile route initially, but decided against it. After 3 or so miles I loosened up and decided that if I wasn't going to get the full mileage in I'd run it hard. I can't believe that last split. I double and triple checked the distance on mapmyrun. I knew it was fast but not that fast.
Tomorrow I may try to catch up some of the miles I skipped out on today. Depends on school. And how I feel. The Plan calls for a tempo run on Wednesday- 11 miles including 7 @7:00.
One more thing- I'll never buy another kind of shoe again. I don't why I originally strayed, but I wore my new Mizuno Wave Rider 9s today. Heaven. I hope I never have to say another thing about my shoes again.

11OCT06
scheduled: 11 miles with 7 @7:00 tempo pace
actual: 9.3 miles
1:08:53 (7:24 avg pace)
splits:
1.11 miles - 8:49 (7:57)
2.14 miles - 7:51 (7:37)
3.40 miles - 9:28 (7:29)
4.64 miles - 8:43 (7:02)
6.65 miles - 14:56 (7:26) damn hills
8.13 miles - 10:38 (7:11)
9.30 miles - 8:24 (7:11)
What's that word? Oh yeah- meh. If I wasn't less than 3 weeks to the race I'd probably be really tempted to call it off. I've had no motivation lately and in fact have not even really been enjoying running. It feels like an obligation right now.
The weather changing doesn't help either. It was in the 40s with a steady cold rain and 30 mph winds this afternoon. They are calling for rain/snow mix the next couple nights. Great.

Hang in there, Jim. You're almost at the finish line ... well, starting line. You know what I mean. This is where you dig deep and find the meaning of the word "determination"! Do us proud, young man.

It sounds like your taper madness is setting in. Of course you're tired of running - look at the schedule and the distances you've had to cover. You'll start to feel much less exhausted and burned out over the next couple of weeks. You just have to be careful with pacing, because as your legs recover, you may get tempted to go faster than you should!!

Thanks guys. I am tired and have been in a funk the past few days. Nothing anybody else hasn't faced before. I need to get my head back into it. Here's a bit of an e-mail sent out from the RD this morning (funny guy):
Quote:
What! There's snow on the ground this morning. Hey, it's October. It's Michigan.
We're down to 17 days. That means we're still a week away from getting the 10-day forecast, so I still have no idea what the weather will be like on race day. Pack for anything.
Training run Sunday, 8:00 at the YMCA. We're only planning on 15 miles. (We're tapering, remember.) Bring a water bottle. We'll plant some refill water somewhere around 7.5 miles or so.
The snow will melt. Relax. We have a contingency plan: In case of bad weather, we'll hold the event OUTDOORS.
|
The Y does have an indoor track. Maybe that should be the contingency plan!

15 miles on a track that sounds almost as good as doing it on a treadmill. Keep your head in the game man you know everbody here is pulling for you. The excitement factor should kick in pretty soon right? Plus when you are done with this you get a big weekend (hell make it a week) of partying.

Thanks, guys.
GG- I will party. I plan on taking a couple weeks off from anything resembling exercise and will definitely celebrate.

12OCT06
scheduled: 10 miles @8:06
actual: 9.47 miles
1:15:38 (7:59 avg pace)
splits:
3.69 miles - 29:46 (8:04)
6.51 miles - 22:34 (8:00)
9.47 miles - 23:18 (7:52)
So. Windy. So. Cold. Frozen booger run.
I actually had to hold back, my legs felt pretty good. Except that my knees are a little sore for some reason. Even with the 12 I'm planning on doing Saturday, this won't even be a 40 mile week. I'm hoping I start to feel really good next week. I'm thinking of doing a 5k race on the 21st. That is 8 days before the marathon but I don't think that should matter too much. The Plan has me scheduled to do a tempo run 3 days before the race so Saturday should be okay.

I thought about running for about 30 seconds yesterday. Then, I realized that the cold weather was here to stay and decided to put it off... until April.

I don't think running for 30 seconds would have done you much good anyway, Jamie. :p

I was hoping to hear that from you. My speedwork hasn't been quite what it was back in July but I wonder if my increased mileage will help me break that elusive 20:00 barrier.

I'll have to do a couple miles for warmup and then a couple more afterwards to get in my mileage for that day.
