18SEP06
scheduled: 11 miles @8:06
actual: 11.27 miles
1:28:17 (7:50 avg pace)
splits:
2.63 miles - 21:57 (8:21)
5.38 miles - 21:37 (7:52)
8.13 miles - 21:18 (7:45)
9.14 miles - 8:00 (7:55)
11.27 miles - 15:23 (7:13)
It took me a few miles to really get into this one. I'm still kind of stiff and sore from Saturday and my immune system is working overtime to beat this cold. I felt pretty good near the end and decided to get a couple MP miles in. Actually, they were a little faster than that. But they felt good. It was pretty breezy and cool out today. I also ran a little later, so traffic was pretty heavy. I run close to half of this route on the side of a busy highway and it really sucks when a semi or school bus goes flying by at 60mph.

Good run only two days after a race!! The pics are good, too, except that company's watermarks are really obnoxious. Jeeez!!! You look really happy in the third pic - obviously you must have been following Laura at that point.

I had her in my sights the whole way. I was SO happy to finish. LOL!
You're right about those watermarks. Dammit.
Here's one more with Laura right in front of me. I didn't like this pic, though, because it looks like I'm running with something shoved up my ass. (plus one of those stupid watermarks goes right across my face.)

46 th overall and that was sucky? Nice friggin race, you loooked like you were struggling on the bridge shots but it's not like someone was yelling at you to smile either. Your finishing shot looked liked you were pretty pleased, as you should have been. Congrats on the new PR.

Thanks GG. The funny thing is that those bridge shots were only a mile in. Like I said it took a little while to get into the groove of things. I think that's why I don't really care for 5k races as much.

20SEP06
scheduled: 10 mile run with 8 mile tempo (7:04)
actual:
2.12 miles warmup with stretching ~20:00
tempo section: 4.51 miles (6:59 avg pace)
1.52 miles - 10:21 (6:49)
2.53 miles - 7:07 (7:03)
3.49 miles - 6:45 (7:02)
4.51 miles - 7:18 (7:09)
rest of run (see below)
3.68 miles - 31:59 (8:41)
total 10.31 miles
Well, this run sucked. The race, long run on Monday, and some pretty stiiff winds took it out of me pretty quickly. I hate giving up on anything, especially a key workout like a tempo run, but I just had to listen to my body and pull up after only 4.5 miles of tempo. At least I had a good pace up to that point.
I began running at close to an 8:00 pace- nothing hard, when all of a sudden I needed to find a private place quick. If you don't know what I mean, lucky you. Most of my routes are in wooded areas or farmland. Unfortunately, at the moment I was in a pretty highly populated rural area. Even the nearby cornfield had just been harvested and provided no cover. I continued, very slowly, seeing as my butt-cheeks were clenched together so tight, until I came across a lone apple tree on the side on an embankment off the road. At that point I didn't care about anything other than my business. The remaining couple of miles back home were utterly miserable. Maybe I'll try to throw a couple mile in at tempo pace during tomorrow's 10 miler. 20 on Saturday- and I'll have to do it alone. Laura has other plans.
Man, I love running.

OMG, Jim, that is TOO funny. (Although I'm sure it wasn't for you at the time! ) Too bad about the shitty run (pun entirely intended ). Next time will be better ... it's just gotta be!! :p

I'd hate to see it worse! lol I know that this was probably TMI , but I've really never had that problem before and I just needed to have a good excuse for the bad pacing.

Yeah, I probably should have put a warning or something beforehand.

I was cruising right along for a while, but ran out of gas (no pun intended) pretty quickly.

John by the Apple Tree now that is funny. Sorry you had an off outing but at least you know you left it all out on the course.
Note to self carry TP if you start doing long runs.
