That will become a feeling you experience more and more often.

Strider's 10 mile Saturday Classic
1:11:48 (7:11 avg pace)
splits
mile 1 - 7:03 oops. a little hot out of the gate.
mile 2 - 7:17 a little back on track
mile 3 - 7:08 man, I feel good! slightly downhill
mile 4 - 7:08 more gentle downhill
mile 5 - 6:55 pretty good downhill stretch. still can't believe this split!
mile 6 - 7:26 oof! this hill didn't seem that bad going down!
mile 7 - 7:31 am I running out of gas?
mile 8 - 7:24 on fumes?
mile 9 - 7:06 maybe not!
mile 10- 6:44 wasn't going to let some guy pass me. unreal!!
Wow! what a race. So much fun and the weather was perfect. I still can't believe how I did. I was shooting for a 7:30 pace but just didn't seem to be able to slow down except for those 3 miles headed uphill between 5 and 8.

Great race! You'll break a 7:00 1/2-M before you know it.

km- Thanks! That would be awesome to run a 7:00 half. Still, that leaves me plenty to have to make up on your pace!
After the race on Saturday, I had a great convo with my algebra teacher (the marathoner). She seems to have more confidence in me than I do in myself. According to her a 3:15 marathon (BQ) is not not of the realm of possibilities for me- even for my first. I mean- c'mon! Mcmillan projects something like a 3:21 based on that 10 miler and I think a 3:30ish based on my half. Still- I think I'll shoot for it. (Dave'll probably roll his eyes when he reads about this .)

4 mile tempo run
27:18 (6:50 avg pace)
mile 1 - 6:47
mile 2 - 6:53
mile 3 - 6:36
mile 4 - 7:00 (dammit!)
No, those are not typos! If I'm going to run a 7:00 pace in a half I need to get my shorter runs at and below that pace. I ran this pretty hard. Great weather. In fact, almost a little too warm. But, I'm not complaining about that. All in all, I just don't know what to say about this. It is so motivating to keep progressing.

total body workout
neutral grip pullups
BW x 12, 12, 8
BB lunges
95 x 12, 12, 12
military press
85 x 12, 12, 10
sumo deads
185 x 12, 12, 10
DB bench press
60 x 12, 12, 12
Man, I feel like I haven't lifted in ages. Not much energy in the gym today. Not much sleep lately with the semester closing and a new girlfriend. I felt my left quad tweak a little on the last set of deads. I was going to go for an easy 3 mile run afterwards, but me leg wasn't up to it. I'll see how it feels in awhile and maybe go after some studying for an algebra test.
I was going to do 6-7 miles tomorrow. If I don't get my run in tonight, maybe I'll up tomorrow's run a little to 8.

Nice progress! I suggest looking for a group of faster runners to run with at least once a week. I first started running with my Wednesday group a little over a year ago, and it's virtually transformed my running performance. Amongst recreational runners, competitiveness breeds competitiveness!

3 mile easy run
23:20 (7:47 avg pace)
I sucked it up and went and ran tonight. Mile 1, I felt really tight and my thigh was kind of sore. By mile 2, I loosened up and mile 3 I felt pretty good. I purposely took it easy and held back though I was tempted to run out mile 3 hard. I want to feel as fresh as possible for tomorrow's semi- long run.

This is something I've been thinking about looking into. I very rarely run into anyone running around my town. However, down at school I'm sure I could find lots of people. And don't forget, I will be training this summer for my marathon with my super hot sexy marathon running algebra teacher once the semester ends.

7 mile run
52:18 (7:28 avg pace)
splits
mile 1 - 7:26
mile 2 - 7:47
mile 3.65 - 12:29 (7:34 pace)
mile 5 - 9:47 (7:14 pace)
mile 6 - 7:12
mile 7 - 7:34
Tough time settling down into a groove today. I ran some of the few hills around town and those combined with a stiff wind had my pace all over the place. I was pretty tight and sore the first few miles, but really felt good the second half of the run. I need to do some good stretching tonight.
On a totally unrelated matter, I just had some new neighbors move into the apartment below me. They are both smokers. Ugh. They stand out on their porch and the smoke just seems to billow into my place. I'm no anti-smoking nazi (even though I'm an ex-smoker), but I'm going to see the manager tomorrow. There is no way I'm going to tolerate that. I'm going to ask to be released from my rental agreement without penalty. I highly doubt that they'll go for it so I don't know what I'll do. I just renewed the lease last month, so I hope I'm not stuck for the next year smelling that shit.

Too bad you don't live in California, you could probably sue and get at least one of them executed.
As far as group running goes, you're making progress on your own, and since the semester doesn't have too much longer you should be fine until you start training with the "super hot sexy marathon running algebra teacher." As long as she's faster than you... /double entrendre

30 x 10, 10, 10, 10

Pretty much the same workout from 11APR, I just did 10 reps instead of 8.
On the smoking neighbor issue, I've been given the oppurtunity to move penalty free to another building which management hopes to turn into a smoke-free building. I may take them up on the offer- one problem, though. The open apartment is near the playground. I don't know if I could stand screaming kids that close by. Oh, well. I have til June 1st to decide.
