John.. well maybe they have a point that WE don't get.. I don't know..
I don't want to judge anybody ("any Body" in this case ) for having "only" aesthetic values.. It surely takes all kinds of people to make up a world.. they may have other passions
maybe if I had the looks and the talent to be a covergirl.. It would be all right that I "work-out" just to look good.. (would be good for the health anyways)..
I usually say that I don't want to sell hiking to everyone.. there would be to many people on the trails.. let them stay indoors and play basketball if they want to!

Ballroom Dancing, XC skiing, winter hiking....man and I thought I had the FUN factor in working out all tied up! I think it's great the way you use doing what you love to keep you in shape. Ah, if only sitting around watching TV and eating chocolate and peanut butter burned as many calories as MTBing I'd be set!

Not necessarily judging anybody, but I sometimes wonder if some people realize how fortunate they are. Even covergirls are working toward a goal. The look they must maintain is part of their job.

Could be...isn't there something to be said for things like celery-it burns more calories gnawing on it than is in it? I think that should go for high maintenance food like eating crawfish or peel and eat shrimp too. Any food that you have to whisk before you eat it-that's negative calories right there!

I'm not sure how I got wrangled into that one. It's a 12 hour relay. The course is about 10 miles, mostly single track. It's a trail that we've ridden often and love so it will be a good time. Each person rides one loop then rests while the others have a go. The most loops in the time limit wins. Should be fun. I'm in good shape cardio wise but haven't been on the bike...we'll see. I look at it as a way to spend time with people I like too since Silly is the one who asked me to do it and Joe immediately volunteered for support.

TOSSEDUP.. in some ways not good.. but I'm trying not to think about it.. and I'm eating way too much, but right now I don't care.
on the good side though.. had a very good group fitness workout though.. Amélie takes everything out of us.. and then finds even more that we had hidden.

Hiking trails are pretty crowded here, too.
I wish I could convince more people that camping sucks. Camping in California needs to be planned out months (like six or more, for some places) in advance, just to get a spot!

I'm quite lucky that on my weekly hikes I can go on fridays.. even if there are school groups at the mountain, they rarely do the same trails I do. so in a 5,5 hour hike.. I can meet maybe a dozen people.
wow!!! months!!! I guess the places must be real beautiful!
do you go camping often?

No. I can't bring myself to plan that far in advance.
When I was in my 20s, we camped ever couple of weeks. But, my jobs then were mostly on the weekends, so I could camp during the weeks. It's easier to find openings during the week.

Yes, for anyone who loves the outdoors.. working week-ends is good.
I did most my camping in my 20s as well.. week-ends.. but in the wilderness.. no reservations .. With my ex and son.. we had just bought tents to start backpacking when I devorced.. I'm REALLY due for a vacation.. haven't really been anywhere for 5 years.

We don't need fewer hikers, we need more trails!!! We don't need fewer cyclists, we need more bike lanes!!! What we need are fewer cars!!!
Sorry, hit a nerve...
