Then put it this way. If you were me. If you were mahler. You would have another 32 years to wait to start lifting. You are 20. I started at 52. You are going to be a mofo, my friend. A major mofo.

My point exactly. I was early 40s. Definitely major mofo.

I know I know, I have a huge head start on you guys.
But I could have really hit the weights at 15, but instead waited until I was REALLY big to do anything, which was around 17. I wish I didn't wait those two years.
I was so convinced by symbolic's beautifully presented argument about endurance training today, that I skipped my interval workout and instead went to the rec center and ran 10 miles. That's 60 laps on the track around the basketball courts, and although it was tedious, I got it done, and I felt better than ever.
Who the f*(& am I kidding?
HIIT
5 minutes @ 3.5
5 rounds; 1 minute @ 10.0, 2 minutes @ 6.5
5 minutes @ 3.5
Thoroughly tired and sweaty after this. I could really feel myself pressing for that last interval, and it felt good to get it completed. Just two months ago I was barely completing three rounds @ 10.0, so this is a major improvement, and my belly shows.
However, I did have one minor roadblock this evening. It was probably the most ridiculous music I have ever heard while on the treadmill. First I was treated to "Dream's" classic hit "He Loves U Not." Think four Britney Spears wannabes dancing like NSYNC. Yeah, bad. Then I got Enrique's "Escape" for about the fifth time (at least Anna K is in it). Then I had a one song break, I can't remember that, so it must not have been that bad, and then Britney's "Toxic." That song is poisoning me. (Har har) And to cap it all off after "Toxic," was Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body." Never have I been so glad to walk back to my room in the snow.

You are a very strong man to put up with that drivel they call music. Man, that's awful!
Congrats on the 5 intervals. Smokin'! (You meant your belly doesn't show now, didn't you?? )

I wish my belly didn't show. It's going away, just not totally gone yet.
Page 2, sheesh, that's what I get for studying para espanol yesterday.
Wednesday, March 22
Superset 1
Snatch Grip Deads
3x8 @ 215
T Pushups
3x12
Superset 2
Bulgarian Split Squat/Overhead Press
3x8 @ 27.5
Neutral Grip Chins
6, 5, 4
The 25s were taken, so I had to move up one more slot, and my shoulders failed me miserably. They were always on fire, and today I couldn't finish the reps overhead pressing. Ouch.
I also got antsy and thought I could do 3x8 on the chinups. Heck, I was doing 13 consecutive last summer, 3x8 is nothing right? Ha! Combined with the superset and sweaty palms, I struggled. I also haven't done pullups and chins in a LONG time.
Superset 3
BOR/RDL
3x8 @ 120
Form sucked mucho on these. Fatigue was definitely an issue
Lower Body Russian Twist
3x10
I left my notebook on my couch today, so didn't have the notebook and didn't look as serious. Also, between sets 2-3 on my first superset, a guy started using my rack for stretches. Uh, hello dipshit, that bar on the ground with the round things on it? I'm using it.

Nick,
Looks like you started off pretty good (Snatch Grip Deads at 215 are great) then lost momentum. The workout is a definite killer. Using the rack for stretches is unforgivable. Hit him with a dumbbell and put him out of his misery.

Did you say something? I hope so, what? What was the reaction?

No, I stared at him, he gave "the nod" and then moved on to the other rack to finish stretching. Earlier, the same turd was doing the upright row motion to his buddy while asking "Do you want to do that shoulder thing?"
Wednesday, March 22 Part Deux
HIIT
5 minutes @ 3.5
5 rounds; 1 minute @ 10.0, 2 minutes @ 6.5
5 minutes @ 3.5
Well, tonight was decent music. A good blend of rap and rock, and they even played "Forgot About Dre" although it was heavily censored. And as Room Raiders was on one of the televisions, I pondered one of life's many questions. Why is the girl of the episode on Room Raiders always wearing a bikini top? And why is she really not that attractive? And why does the girl always have her belly button pierced? And why is one of the guys in the van always shirtless? These are important questions. But I will say this, don't let your daughters go on Room Raiders. Unless you want her to look like a slut on televison.
I was in the back row in the middle of the treadmills, on the right of a bank of four. The three next to me were wiiiiiiiiiiide open. But something must have been very appealing about that sexy treadmill next to me. I mean why would the guy have chosen it? Why can't an extremely attractive girl come run next to me? Why do I always get the guys/not hot girls?
I've also come to the realization that my HIIT sessions are much more entertaining than my weightlifting sessions.

Yes they have, Nick.
You're doing great for your age Nick. Well ahead of a majority of your peers. Starting at 15, like I did, only means 2 wasted years of curls and benching. The end result most likely being rounded, screwed-up shoulders, like mine. You're doing solid programs and respectable weights. More than I can say about most of the gym-goers your age.
and the guy doing 405 lbs, he probably has track marks across his ass. :p

Some guy actually waited for me to finish squats. A long time, too. Then he did his curls. 65lbs.
I just don't get it. What's the attraction, when there are fixed BBs right there, just waiting to be used? Do they think it looks cool to use a really long bar or something?

Great HIIT routine, Nick. And, you think too much when you workout. Stop it. NOW.

So is he that bad, once he realized he was in the way he move, not bad I would say. Mind you I do not workout in a gym and have to put up with this everyworkout. Ignore or laugh at them and enjoy!
