Was the broken treadmill the one closest to the door? They probably didn't want to walk ALL the way past you to find another treadmill. And I'm certain they didn't see the irony in that, either.

No it wasn't. It's staggered, and you come in behind the back rows (there's three I think), and I was in the first row. I like my space. If she was cute, ok, I would cut her some slack, but if it's an ugly chick or a guy I don't know, sorry, get yer ass away from me. (Typical college guy response, I know)

No workout today, I had class and four basketball games. Tomorrow I have to cover four games, but I have a break in the afternoon that should allow me to get to the gym. This week has not been fun, I just want to go to sleep.

Guess who's not going to get to the gym again today?

I don't have anything tomorrow. I'm going as soon as it opens at noon.

Ha. I just want to make it to April. I just want to make it to Tuesday night!

Sunday, March 12

Superset 1
Squats
3x10 @ 200
Cable Seated Row
3x10 @ 150

Superset 2
Standing Military Press
10, 10, 8 @ 85
Lunges
3x10 @ 30 (EH)

Superset 3
Supine Hip Extension/Leg Curl
3x10
Upper Body Russian Twist
3x10 @ 15

Stayed the same on most exercises. I had no energy, and I am dead tired. I have two tests tomorrow, and a project for journalism class due Tuesday, not to mention a quiz. ACK! I was also at the arena until freaking 1 am this morning, so that didn't help.

At least you didn't blow off the workout, Nick. Way to go. Good luck on the tests tomorrow and with getting your project in on-time. You'll get 'er done, no doubt!

Hang in there, Nick. All that secondary stuff, you know quizzes and projects, will be over soon and you can return to you're true calling.....music video critic!

Nice job with the weights, too.

Glad to see you completed the workout. Good luck with school and all the extras you have to do. You will make it to April. I'll be there to greet you. LOL

Home free!!!!

At least for the time being. Thanks for the encouragement guys, I now have a fairly clear path until the retreat. I'm going to reward myself with a nice 2 hour nap this afternoon after class. Then sit back, relax and watch some basketball.

In related news, it looks like I will be writing about something fitness related for my "big story 2" in journalism class. I'm thinking something along the lines of common weight room fallacies/misconceptions. I can't get too advanced because of my audience. We'll see.

And Gabe, school is for losers.

3 weeks! Yikes, that's scary. I may need to spend those weeks on the treadmill.

M- definitely. I hope to impress some people in class when I talk about it Thursday. (sad, I know)

HIIT
5 minutes @ 3.5
4 rounds; 1 minute @ 10.2, 2 minutes @ 6.5
5 minutes @ 3.5

Interestingly I was not nearly as spent after these intervals. This is the last week of four rounds before I go to five, so I may try to see if I can get to four rounds of 10.5 before I add another interval. Also a good day because there were no Britney or Jessica songs! There was a Gwen Stefani one though, so I wasn't completely spared.

If I were a rich girl, na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na ........ AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Odd... I had the same experience today. I found the HIIT somewhat easier. Ended up doing an extra 2 intervals .... cause I could. Go figure. Must be a full moon or something.

Rob,
As a matter of fact, there was a full moon last night. LOL

Nick,
10.2 is a gruelling pace. My treadmill only goes up to 10 and that is a tough pace to keep up for long.

Yes, I have to agree with you, John. I have done 10 but only for a very brief period. A minute at that pace is admirable, especially followed by such a short "slow" interval. You must be wrecked by the end of those 4 intervals, Nick.

LOL on the full moon, John. Had to be! :p

Thanks for the comments about my intervals. I thought I was a slow piece of crap! I really like doing them right before I go to sleep now. After I shower, I have no problems going to sleep, and I feel better in the mornings. And it's better than sitting and doing nothing at 11 pm.

Wednesday, March 15

Superset 1
Snatch Grip Deadlift
3x10 @ 210
T Pushups
3x12
Was going to add weight here until I realized that the dumbbells were rounded. I tried using them, but was scared shitless that I was going to tumble to the floor. Had a guy humping the end of the bar while I was doing deadlifts. He apparently didn't see the massive amount of space to my right that was available for his curling.

Superset 2
Bulgarian Split Squat/Overhead Press
3x10 @ 22.5 (EH)
Underhand Lat Pulldown
3x10 @ 180

Superset 3
Bent Over Row/Romanian DL
3x10 @ 115
Lower Body Russian Twist
3x10

Rob- Yes it was that same Gwen Stefani song yesterday, and it was on again when I was in there today! I also had the girl on the cable next to where I was doing my split squats start yapping on her phone. I wanted to tell her to put it away. And there was a guy "lifting" (I use that term loosely) in his North Face fleece and Bass Pro hat. Sorry, dressed like that, you can't be taken seriously in the weight room.

That's a good question Greg.

Last year I essentially had quit doing any running or cardio of any sort for the summer. It looks like I will be acquiring a good bike over spring break, but I don't know how much I would be riding it before summer because I probably wouldn't drag it down to school.

I am in much better shape now than I was last August, and foresee myself being (obviously) in greater shape this August. Once summer comes I will probably start some longer runs and bike rides.

Friday, March 17

Superset 1
Squats
3x8 @ 205
Wide Grip Cable Row
3x8 @ 165

Superset 2
Standing Military Press
8, 7, 6 @ 95
Dynamic Lunge
3x8 @ 35 (EH)

Superset 3
Supine Hip Extension/Leg Curl
3x10
Upper Body Russian Twist
3x8 @ 25

Good workout today made even better by the fact that I was occupying the rack nearest the television with the tournament on. Went 3-1 in the first slate of games, but the Iowa loss shouldn't hurt, I had them losing next round.

A guy started using the rack next to me while I was in superset 2, and promptly started squatting 315, then 405. Made me feel worthless, that's for sure.

Worthless? That's a bit harsh. Weak and scrawny-a$$ed maybe, but not worthless.

Seriously, you're doing really well, Nick. Your numbers and your program are nothing to be embarrassed about. Remember. You're comparing yourself to your last workout, not the guy next door. I know you know that but I find I need to remind myself about it on a regular basis or I get discouraged.

I know, I know. But man, I wanted to be able to lift that weight so badly

Saturday, March 19

HIIT
5 minutes @ 3.5
4 rounds; 1 minute @ 10.4, 2 minutes @ 6.5
5 minutes @ 3.5

Jacked it up .2 and that did the trick. I was GASSED.

I went during the second half on the Tennessee-WSU game, and the game was in commercials when I entered the rec. As stated earlier, I am a firm believer of not going next to someone on a treadmill if there are open ones available, so instead of going to the middle, I went towards the right side.

Of course, the game comes back on about a minute into my warmup and it is on one of the televisions on the far left! They finally turned one of the televisions on the right to the game (there is a bank of eight or 10) but I was so far away, and without my glasses, that I couldn't really tell the score.

Hey nick

remember when you feel down about the guy squating 400, there are people reading this feeling down by 200+ ATG at high reps ( there are also some of us who are impressed by it...)

Well put, Peter, it's all relative.

And Nick, 10.4 is impressive as hell. Nice one.

PS. Don't worry about the glasses thing. Without mine, I wouldn't have been able to see the TV let alone the score.

Nick,
Try not to let the 400 pound lift get to you. That guy, like every lifter, started out somewhere and believe me it was not 400 pounds. It's his additional experience and not any weakness on your part that is the difference between the weights you move.

I am a wuss!

P- I view your lifts and results more impressively than I view mine. What you are doing at your size and bodyweight dwarfs what I am doing.

M- Oh I realize that, he definitely had to start out somewhere. But it makes me just wish that I had found my "somewhere" sooner. However, I can't change that.

K- thanks. I don't think it's too impressive, but considering I was doing 10.5 for three, and now 10.4 for four now, I will take that improvement. The fifth interval starts tonight.

Sunday, March 19

HIIT
5 minutes @ 3.5
4 rounds; 1 minute @ 10.4, 2 minutes @ 6.5
5 minutes @ 3.5

I got a treadmill right in front of one of the televisions with the game on it, so no worries about missing the basketball game yesterday.
