I don't know how long I can take the Velocity Diet, but I'm doing okay so far! Oh, look at the time, it's time for the second shake of the diet! Three hours have passed already?
Anyhow, I'm thinking of it as a booster rocket to leanness. If I last a week, I'll have given myself a fat loss boost. I think I can take it longterm. 28 days!
I've been very busy at work, so having 5-6 shakes ready to go in my cooler will sort of be a load off my mind. No cooking for a while.
I'm going to use Turbulence Training again. I've had good luck with it in the past, so why mess with success? It's fast and does the job.
However, with apologies to Craig, I will be changing some of the lifts around a bit. Mostly changing some lifts from DBs to BBs. Nothing drastic.
Also, I like to do a big lower body lift every time I lift, rather than do an upper/lower split. So, things might more around there, too.
When the weather is nice, I'll try to so hill sprints or stairs instead of intervals.
This will be interesting. I've read about the Velocity Diet, and it looks intriguing; at the same time I feel a little trepidatious about trying something that extreme. So I will read with an open mind and curiosity.
Couple questions. I know this has been a subject of discussion in other threads. Are you using the exact products that Shugart recommends, especially the LoCarb Grow! shakes, or using another source?
I'll be very interessted in reading how your Diet goes..I looked it up on T-Nation to know what you're talking about
RacerBill--I'm not using the exact products, no. I'm not really using any of them...
No Grow! I have another brand of protein powder. It's a blend, containing whey, casein, etc. I have chocolate and vanilla. Both are delicious.
No HotRox, either. Green Tea (actual tea and pills) and caffeine. Not the same, of course.
No Surge... Instead, a rather tasty combination of malto, dextrose, protein powder, and creatine, with a dash of a generic Crystal-Light-ish raspberry lemonade for flavor. It does taste good, too!
20 fish oil capsules per day (6g combined EPA/DHA). 5-6 shakes per day, each with a tablespoon of ground flaxseed in it.
Fiber, I have one bottle of Benefiber. I put a tablespoon in some of the shakes, hoping that it slows digestion/absorption. I've had the bottle, might as well use it up, eh?
For the still curious, on non-lifting days, that's 211g P, 47g F, and 42g C. On lifting days, it's 224g P, 45g F, and 100g C.
Another slight deviation from the true diet is that I take the 20 fish oil capsules on both workout and non-workout days. I'm a firm believer in the benefits of Omega-3s. Plus, I don't believe that the calories of the fish oil caps count against you, from a fat loss perspective. On the contrary, in the past, when I added fish oil to my diet (from no fish oil), I neglected to count their calories. Even though, I was taking in 200 more calories per day, I lost fat just as fast, if not-faster.
Shugart has 5 shakes per day. I'd rather have 6 slightly smaller shakes, since I often don't get enough sleep and have more awake time to be hungry. Also, it makes exact time a little less important, since I can't always excuse myself from a client visit to go out to my car/cooler for a quick shake. This way I can more easily time it around my anticipated schedule during the day.
30 minutes until my last shake of the day. So far, I'm no more hungry than any other diet I've been on.
Hey, you decided to give it a try?? Nice. I'll be very, very anxious to see how you fare. Best of luck to you. Like you said, at least you don't have to worry about any food for awhile. Ha!
Good luck with the cutting. I'm looking foward to reading yours and Gymrats logs (and mine) and kind of compairing what's going on...results and whatnot. It's kind of handy coming from different backgrounds, with different methods and stuff.
Craig's pretty damn heartless when you're doing the programs as precribed! A certain amount of sympathy to you in that reguards!
How do you feel the bulk went? Were you happy with the programresults? Anything that you would have changed?
My bulk went well. 9 weeks of Waterbury routines and a lot of food, pwo. I did The Art of Waterbury and TBT, with the 9 week Perfect 10 overlayed (for chest and back). I was sick for one week (luckily, week 8 of P10). I'd hoped to hit 200, but oh well.
I put on 21 lbs and my body fat % went up maybe 1%, but I don't think it's even that. It's hard to tell, exactly, because as soon as I started eating more, my bf% (on the Tanita) jumped up 3% and stayed there. In one day. Obviously, it wasn't fat, but it's hard for me to say I stayed the same body fat (15%), it's also hard to lay it out that it went from 12% to 15%, since that happened in ONE DAY. It's obvious I gained some fat over my abs (assuming they're even in there...).
I can't think of anything I would have changed. It was nice to bulk around the holidays. Most of the time, I managed to get in my workout just before the family visit/pigout, so that worked well.
Thanks for the clarification, complete with macro totals, too. Sorry it had to turn into a dissertation! You enjoy typing, right?
I totally agree - those lunges are killer. Sure makes 12 reps seem like forever.
You're off and running now. And I echo Galya's sentiments!
True. No oatmeal for me, though. Shugart's oatmeal meal is like 500 calories. I don't mind the calories, but I'm not really satisfied by oatmeal. I can do a lot better with those 500 calories with meat and veggies!
This week's solid meal will likely be at a work function friday night. I don't know what they'll have, so I'll still have my shake in the cooler in my car, just in case.
Sheeeesh..... you've got the willpower to do this.
I'm finding that Adam's isn't as bad as I thought. In fact I'm even pooping more. hahahahahahaha! Sorry, had to share!
I'm following you closely on this one bro.
Sending you a virtual version of my menu.
You obviously were hungry enough if you liked that over in my log.
Hunger is a part of dieting and so is fat loss, so I guess your pains are all worth it.
The leaner you is coming out.
Here's sending you some willpower bro. You can do it!!!! I'm very anxious to see how this little adventure in "not eating" turns out result-wise for you.
Office function was okay. There were only appetizers, like quesadillas and fried stuff. All of which we had to purchase ourselves. So I stepped out to the car and had my reserve shake, instead. Plus, I stuck to diet soda and water.
However, I was SO LOOKING forward to an actual meal, that I ended up having dinner at Chipotle, later. A Burrito Bol of grilled chicken, black beans, lettuce, grilled peppers and onions, plus a TON of pico de gallo. I love tomatos. For those of you who don't know, a Burrito Bol has no tortilla. It's plopped into a bowl, instead.
