500 push-ups!! You're sick Tony, just plain sick. And I'm sure you're going to be doing 500 reverse push-ups today so you don't develop any muscle imbalances, right?

coming from you, that's quite the compliment. I've come to embrace imbalances. Or at the very least admit that I really don't know what to take into consideration when dealing with that sort of thing so my motto is "fuck it"

that's a pretty sad reality isn't it? I think she figured out how these kids keep coming along...DAMNIT!!
Anyways
4 x 800 repeats, felt really strong. it was darker than the inside of a cow out there but otherwise it went well
Push Press 5x3 @ 111lbs
B1: Sumo Deadlift 4x5 @ 220
B2: DB Scarecrows 4x5 @ 16lbs
C1: Single Leg Squat 4x5 + 44lbs
C2: Pullup 4x5 @ BW
ab circuit
Toes to sky 1 leg bent x 10 each side
Cruch with legs in air x 10
side raise x 10 per side
situp w\ twist x 10 per side
Everything went pretty well. The Push Press went especially well considering the pushups earlier in the week. Could have went for more on the deadlifts but didn't see much reason to, it'll work itself out in a couple weeks. The pullups were fucking hard. Going to have to make a special effort to get better at those. All in all it's a good day tater.

I'm using the holiday program. Personally...for me...I don't really buy the "run less\lift more" theory for a middle distance runner to run faster. I just don't buy it. So running faster is still #1 and will be untill after my PT test. However, I think I kinda maxed out the immediate benifits of "just running\pushups" and progressing without any kind of lifting would probibly be longer and more painful than I care to do. Don't have much time so Lisa suggested this 2x a week program and all is well.
The running isn't a "program" so much as I try to progress and am trying to move more and more into speed work 3x a week. I got a handfull of workouts that "should" all help towards getting better. Pick one that matches how I feel and the weather\time of day and go for it!

I don't remember the breakdown in points exactly but we need to score a 75 out of 100
50 possible points from a 1.5 mile run in 9:36
30 possible points from an abdominal circumfrence measurement max being 32.5"
10 possble points from pushups in 1minute without rest max at 52 or so
10 possbile points from situps in 1minute without rest max being 52(ish)
so...basicly nothing particularly fancy. I embarassed myself last year, this year I may not max it, but it'll be within spitting distance.

I don't know your waist size, but based on your workouts, you may be able to max this. I'm no running expert but I would run 4 miles as fast as possible to train for the three mile run. Maybe you could run 2 or 2.5 miles for time to train for the 1.5 mile. If you go at a six minute pace, you could max it.

Have you checked Adam Campbell's blog? He's been training to get back to a 5 minute mile. Bill Hartman's been helping him, I think.
I don't know if it's a good plan or not. I know nothing about running other than how to do it. I gave it up...

greg> the waist won't be too big an issue. it's pretty close as is, figure I'll diet down pretty hard in jan to finish it off. more than anything I need to start actually paying attention to the runs and see where I'm at. I only need about a 6:25 pace which *shouldn't* be too big a deal. Again I need to get out there and do a couple practice runs at distance to see what's up, but all in all I'm feeling pretty positive.
more than anything I'd like to *know* that it's my bitch when I walk out there. I've done well every time, but so far this year has been as much time as I've actually dedicated to beating it. we shall see.
LD> yeah, I've been following Adams blog. He's deffinately a source of inspiration and a cool guy to boot. since bill is captain of that ship we'll have to assume it's a smart plan. on the other hand a lot of "running" coaches practice signifigantly different strategies. I'm going to continue to do what I do untill it just because obvious that I'm a tard and need to do something else!
