I think it will hold up fine, running has not seemed to make it any worse. The only time it has gotten worse since it started hurting again this time was on Monday after playing volleyball. But I don't think it was volleyball that caused it to start hurting. I can't find any other common denominator in my activity that could be causing it or making it worse. It started really acting up on January 25 with an associated back pain, I played volleyball that day, but noted that my hip had been at least noticable for a few days. I might have played volleyball on the 16th and 18th, but I don't think I played again till the 25th, so IF volleyball caused it this time around, it was a while before it affected me, or before I realized it. I did rev-hypers and the rower on the 23rd, both exercises that I haven't done in a while. And I did dumbbell swings on the 24th which usually causes lots of low back fatigue(most noticable if I sit in the car a lot the following day), but I was crippled on the 25th. My back was fine a day or two later, but the hip is still ingering. I will get to the Chiro early next week to get it checked out and try to get a plan for recovery. In the mean time I think the run will be fine, a 9 miler on the 30th didn't complicate things.
Thank you for your concern, trust me it is a pain and I don't want it to get worse, but I am pretty sure the run will be fine. Hopefully a diagnosis will come next week with a good plan for fixing it and preventing reoccurences.

Buk, I had to stop by and check out your log. Man, you throw around some serious weights! I wish you the best of luck this weekend during your run. Hope to get a good report so I can get a feel of what's coming up for me!

Right now it is looking like maybe a low of 27 with no precipitation for race day, not too bad I guess; but 55 sure would be a lot nicer, at least in my book. Thanks for the well wishes guys, I am sure things will go well.
Twins, I can't give you too much of a feel. You have actually been training for your run; me, not so much. But I have no doubt it will be a fun weekend.

I spent about an hour in the gym doing mostly straight arm strength training. I am not real good at any of these. I am lucky to get my toes even with my hands for a second on the L-sit, can's hold a planche at all, and have to bend my arms to hold an L-hold. I think the L-sit and L-hold are mostly a flexability issue, but my strength in that position isn't great, because my flexability keeps me out of it. My hips are fairly flexable, but my hamstrings ar as tight as can be. The frog stand and front leaver were a lot harder than my lsat go at them about 2 weeks ago, guess you can't give these guys a break. All in all it was a fairly easy day as I taper for this weekend's half marathon.

Hmm, my last post is gone, but it wasn't anything special - I have been tapering since Wednesday.
A gimmick is exactly what I need. Maybe I will take 3 barbells down with me and see if I can get through the "Linda" workout(10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps of bench, clean, and deadlift) between when I finish the half and Dave cruises in from the full 26.2(that is assuming I even finish before him). Rounds of "Cindy" would be a good option to, but I know that "Linda" would be a lot more intimidating to the running crowd.
Thanks for the well wished guys, I am sure things are going to go well, and it will be a blast. It doesn't have to be fun to be fun!

Mercedes half marathon
A cold early start: 30 degrees, a brisk wind, and a 7:03AM gun. Thankfully my hotel was only 2 blocks away from the start. Espically thankful when I realized about 10 minutes before start that I forgot my forerunner GPS watch. I ran back to grab it, hussled back to the start, and moved into the back of the pack, with "low battery" flashing. I couldn't hear the official start of the race, and my watch didn't even last to the fist mile so I could determine how long after the gun I got to the start, but I would only guess about 2-3 minutes. I was fairly bundled up at the start, but ditched my sweatshirt, knit cap and GPS watch about 1.5 miles in, I kept my pants and gloves on the entire 13.1. It was a nice course, but had a few very tough hills - the worst one about 225 feet up between mile 5 and 6.
I took some water at mile 3, and I think it was the coldest water I have ever had, and it upset my stomach a little. Somewhere around mile 4, I began to allow myself occasional walk breaks. I think they helped me out too, because my run paces jumped enough that I think my overall pace including the short walks went up. I grabbed an energy gel at the first station that had them, but just carried it for about 4 miles before deciding to pitch it. I took advantage of the downhills; more of a skip than anything that gave me lots of speed and always pushed me past lots of other runners.
My calves started slightly crapming around mile 10, making me wish I had forced down some more of that ice water along the way. It didn't really slow down my running pace much, but it caused the short walk breaks to be a little more frequent than I wanted them. It was this that slowed me down more than anything else, I otherwise felt fairly strong. I was able to run in the last few hundred meters with a lot of speed, and was happy finishing at a clock time of 2:06:15, a pace of 9:38. A bit faster if you drop the few minutes it took to even get to the start. Breaking 2 hours would have been great, but I was just a little slow for that. If I start actually doing a reasonable amout of running, I think this time whould come down quite a bit next time around.

I had a good time during the race, as tough as it was. But the best part of the weekend was meeting BamaDave, and hanging out with him and his family on Saturday. A group JPFitness would be a great time.
