Did a nice canoe trip with ODBsGirl on the Big Maumelle. Spring is in the air and the male birds were horny as hell!

No that's not us but it's close!

Is that the actual lake you were canoeing on Joe?

Wow does that look great! I hope to see some of the beautiful countryside there next month

Well, you see, on one side of Pinnacle Mountain (where we will hike early Sunday morning of the summit) is the Little Maumelle River which is that picture. On the other side of Pinnacle is the Big Maumelle River where Lisa and I did some paddling. We've been on both many, many times. They are about 20 minutes from the house. Sweet!

Nah, this is a flat water ride. Good workout. You have to go about an hour away to get some good whitewater, great whitewater is about 2.5 hours away.

The rivers real close to where I live are too polluted for my taste of canoeing, although I've seen people water ski on them.

I live in a agricultural region, and they have laws about pollution but not enough and alot of the harm was done long ago.

how's the water pollution in your area?

It's better in some others than others but I haven't found any rivers around here that I won't paddle. Even the Arkansas river is okay, flipped a canoe in that thing before.

In my 7 years of canoeing.. I was almost always on rivers/lakes where I could drink the water with no problem..

by the way.. do you know how to drink from a paddle without missing a beat?

ODB lol.. I only did it with wooden paddles in really clean water.. it's very easy.. as the very end of the stroke you lift the pallette end of the paddle up to about 45° and without really changing the position of your arms.. you swing both of them so that your top is hand low, close to your hips and your bottom hand about at your opposite shoulder (same side as your other hand.) that way the pallette of your paddle is angled right close to your mouth.. and you get all the water running into your mouth.. when you finish drinking the run-off water.. you catch up on the stroke without even loosing a beat. I always used 6" wide paddles.. and it gave enough for an worthwhile sip.. but might take 3 or 4 times if the sun is hot.

Massive storm this morning kept me from my morning run. But now we have another beautiful day. And more water in the rivers. Hopefully we'll have enough so we can do some class II at least this spring.

03/17

Got in a slow hilly 5k this morning. I've got to get ready for the summit and there is nothing like waiting until the last minute to really get the workout and dieting juices going. I'm going to do an eat less diet and a work out more routine. Can't hurt.

Okay, so Saturday I did a short run with my lady. It was nice and kept us from standing around for the 10 year olds entire softball practice. We don't get to run together enough.

Of course the rest of the weekend I ate. Oh, and I ate good! We went to silly & bmp8ters new house and went out for hot wings (I'm talking Atomics which Lisa and I tied on eating. My son who likes hot foods took two bites and spent the rest of the night with ice on his lips.) Then back to the new house for wine and some of Lisa's cheesecake...mmmmmmm! So after that kind of weekend I decided that I need to get back to proper eating. (standing on a scale reading 194 lbs helped). So here is my fitday log if anyone is interested. It always helps me to stop putting food in my mouth if I know I have to write it down.

..and today 03/21

Ran the hilly 5k a little faster than last week but still not near what I'm capable of.
