So who are you pulling for as an instructor Dave, Hot, fit and forty or chatty, seventeen year old cheerleader type? Sounds like either one can't be too hard on the eyes.

The cheerleader is the easiest on the eyes of all, but I'd have to pick Hot, Fit, and Forty (Forty-Plus, actually, I'm pretty sure!).

I'm with you. Older fit chicks are the hottest! But, the young ones are pretty hot, too.

FRI. 10.13.06
AM RUN
DISTANCE: 10.2 miles
TIME: 1:16:05
AVE. PACE: 7:28/mile
-- Spin class was cancelled last night. I told the instructor that Jim said hello, and she went into a rage and started swearing... something about all he cares about is new running shoes and jorts. Really, no instructor showed up, so no class. I think I did feel tighter this morning than I usually do on Fridays after spin class, but eventually I loosened up okay. The colder air was a shock at first -- 41 degrees and a little windy -- but it felt really good pretty quickly. Except for one part where I was on a long uphill stretch going right into the wind. Hoping to do some weights tonight. I have a run with 40 minutes @ tempo tomorrow, which will have to be an evening run since my daughter has a gymnastics meet really early. Then Sunday I have a sinister 19-miler on tap. Hopefully that will go well. Next week is a recovery week on the training plan, with no long run! Instead, there's a 10K race scheduled, but I won't be able to do one... so I'll have to set up my own pretend 10K. At least I know I'll win the overall award!

Damn Dave! I can't get over how fast you are. Consistenly fast, too! I have a 15-miler Saturday. I'll be thinking of you on Sunday while I'm sprawled on the couch watching my Panthers.

Thanks for thinking of me on Sunday, Brett! LOL!!
I'm pretty happy with the training and paces, although I have certainly had faster stretches of high volume running in the past... especially in March of this year ahead of Boston. However, I wasn't doing the speed work nearly as much during that time, so I don't know how that would have affected my pace on days without interval work. On the other hand, I sucked at Boston, and my big assumption has been that March 2006 killed my legs for a serious stretch of time, and my training peak really occurred during that month. I'm hoping really hard that by following this training plan, I'll peak at the right time and won't burn out my legs by doing too many daily runs at too high of an intensity.

FRI. 10.13.06
PM WORKOUT
A. OVERHEAD SQUATS: 100#: 6; 8; 7; 6
B. SINGLE-ARM DB ROWS: 100#: 6 ea.; 6 ea.; 6 ea.
C. STEP-UPS: 100# (2x 50# DB's): 5 ea.; 6 ea.
D. DB BENCH PRESS: 75# e/h: 8; 7; 5
E1. HANGING LEG RAISES: +20# ankle wts.: 10; 10
E2. INCLINE BENCH SIT-UPS: +50#: 4; 6
E3. DB WOODCHOPPERS: 50#: 12 ea.; 12 ea.
F. DIPS: +35#: 6; 5; 5
-- I decided not to do any front squats tonight and just work on overhead squats. These felt good, and my depth seemed good as well. I'll likely increase the load next time, but I am still limited on these by my upper body strength. I had to stop the Step-Ups after two sets, because I tweaked a tendon behind my left knee or the upper part of my calf. UGH!! I'm hoping this feels okay by tomorrow evening for my tempo run, but right now I'm not so sure. I think it will go away pretty quickly, but this weekend could be a wash as far as running. I guess I need to be careful about the Step-Ups while doing these higher mileage running weeks.

That sucks about your leg. Hopefully it's better today. If you were a total slacker like me and gave up on the gym til after the marathon you wouldn't have those problems.:p

Thanks!! I'm definitely knocked out of running today, and I doubt I'll be running 19 tomorrow. So much for following my training plan religiously - I guess something like this had to happen eventually. The pain is in the very upper part of the calf, right behind the knee, and the worst pain comes when I'm walking and push off to take a step. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem like anything that won't heal pretty quickly. I'm optimistic that I'll be able to run again by Tuesday. Hopefully, I can just make this my recovery week with no long run and add the 19-miler to next week's workout schedule.
On a good note, we got up at 5:30AM this morning to take my 7 year-old to her very first gymnastics meet. She won first place for 7 year-olds on bars and vault, and 3rd Place All-Around!!! There were girls in her skill level from age 5 to 11 competing. Although we didn't see all the scores, I think she probably won bars outright over all of the age groups. She scored a 9.600, and the judge was a scoring Nazi. However, there were no overall awards except for the team overall. We'll have to start pressuring her constantly and send her off to live forever at an Olympic gymnastics training center pretty soon!

My upper calf is better today but still not running material. I think Tuesday is still a possibility. It's been kind of nice to decompress. I slept like a log last night. I'm trying to decide whether to do an upper body workout today or just stay off my feet as much as possible. Option #2 sounds pretty tempting!
