Re: Road to 400 Log
Although I will continue to follow the routine in StB through the end of this strength phase, and I will continue to do the three shakes per workout (because I have a ton of cheap dextrose and whey), I must declare that I won't be following StB's nutritional guidelines anymore. Sure, I'll stick to the P+C, P+F stuff, and keep my fats balanced and the green tea flowing... But the massive amounts of food are quite literally beyond my financial means.
I currently have the choice of paying for my prescriptions for the next month or for the gas needed to get to NY for an interview and apartment hunt with my friend. Seeing as how my future enmployment/life in NY is at stake and I cannot go without my asthma medication... I must dig into the food budget to make BOTH of them happen. Therefore, I will be eating amounts closer to a normal human being again (say 2000 cals, to be realistic). Perhaps the bonus 200g of dextrose and 90g of protein at workout times will help me continue to gain some strength.
Now, unfortunately, is not the time to grow bigger.
Beginning point of StB was 164. I'm now at 173. Thanks MM and JB! I'll start it all over someday after I get settled!

Re: Road to 400 Log
Must's for the "Cheap but Healthy" diet:
Fish Oil (4 capsules a day)
Green Tea (3 cups a day)
Spinach, frozen (2 cups a day)
Apples (one a day)
Whey concentrate and malto/dextrose online for workouts
Baby carrots (1/2 cup a day)
olive oil (2 tblsps a day)
Teddie's Natural PB (2 tbslps a day)
Ok, those are my first thoughts... I'll continue this later...

Re: Road to 400 Log
We weigh almost exactly the same dude...within a .5lbs, and we're both 5'10". Sorry to hear your funds are running low, I spend on average 60 bucks a week on groceries and seem to have enough, although I don't really buy any supplements. I do all my shopping at wal-mart supercenter. I buy a lot of natural peanut butter, lean ground beef, split chicken breast (w/bone, can't stand boneless anymore, psychological thing), eggs, tons of skim milk, tons of pure orange juice, watah, lots of fruits, vegetable soups and natural oatmeal. That's like...what I live off of and I manage to stay pretty lean. I don't follow the p-c and p-f rule either but I'm trying to get myself to follow it. Slow cook natural oats are the key to adding carbs in for me, I can throw in chunks of apple and sugarless cinnamon and jack it up to 500kcals in one bowl baby. At night time to get the kcal's in it's hittin the natural peanut butter hard and heavy and a quick protein shake slammed down before bed.
Hope some of this helps,
Nate

Re: Road to 400 Log
Thanks man. It's very hard trying to keep up with StB's specifications, as far as combos and amounts. I also live in a very expensive city (I pay $150 per month to keep my parking spot, which is a lot for a student's income) and even the food tends to be a quarter moer here, fifty cents more there... it adds up quick. But no fears, I'll be getting back on the mass-train again once I land a "real" job.

Hey! Isn't the T really the mass transit authority? You can be the mass-train authority!

I'm very sad to hear this but I'm glad your getting your life straightened out before you go on and try to finish StB. I'm taking a week off because it's a very demanding program mentally and physically and I just need a break. I hope you do finish StB because you came very far and your results were awesome!!!!!! Great job, at keeping up with it for Phase III. Good luck on your future fitness endevours. Even though you aren't doing StB anymore I'll still check this Training Log every so often.

Re: Road to 400 Log
I'll be in your hood in August. We're coming up for my cousin's wedding in RI, and touring the Beantown for a couple of days.

If I'm still here maybe we could hook up. You're more than welcome to a free workout or two at my gym.

Re: Road to 400 Log
Ok... so what have I been up to recently?
Charles Staley's EDT for Arms!!!
I needed something fun, different and less than an hour long.
DAY 1 (last Sunday)
First 15 minutes
BB Curls
10,8,8,6,6,6,7,8,8,6 - BAR
Reverse Tri-Pressdowns
10,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8, - 80
Second 15 minutes
Face Down Hammer Curls
7,7,7,6,6,8,7,6 - 25's
Overhead DB Extensions
10,8,8,7,7,7,7,6 - 40
Maintenance Day (Tuesday)
Squats 2x2-275, 3x5-185
Deads 3x315, 2x5-225
DB Bench 3x5-75's
Seated Rows 2x8-120
DAY 2 (Today)
First 15 minutes
Preacher DB Curls
6,6,6,6,6,6,5,5,3 - 25's
Decline DB Ext.
6,6,6,6,5,5,4,4 - 25's
Second 15 minutes
Reverse Curl with EZ Bar
8,6,6,6,7,7,7,7,5 - BAR+20
Close Reverse-Grip Bench
8,6,7,6,7,7,8,8 - 95
Third 15 minutes
Low Cable Curl (left)
8,5,7,6,6,6,6,6,5,6,5,5,5,2 - 30
Low Cable Curl (right)
same as left
----------------------------------------------------
I must say that it's fun, I've always wanted bigger arms (who doesn't?) I don't have to PUSH myself to workout, and in the long run, this one month of "something completely different" may pay off for me. I just needed a BREAK!!! (Don't worry guys, I'll be back on the compound exercise, strength and power routines soon enough!)
The cryo-massage is cool too.

Re: Road to 400 Log
Halfway done with EDT for Arms. Workouts 3+4 went well: I increased the total number of reps for each exercise, if only by one or two in some.
The "cryo-massage" stuff has helped a lot, I think. The soreness has been kept to a minimum.

Re: Road to 400 Log
It's a lot of fun! My arms have this constant "pump", which is always good for the ego.
While I'm looking for arm growth (of course) I'm also hoping that this will benefit my bigger lifts indirectly by toughening the "middlemen", so to speak, of the major lifts.
I'm a "mirror man" instead of a measurer, so who knows what the numbers will be. Whatever the result, this has been fun, I needed a break from the big lifting, and mentally I'll be better off when I go back to it.
There's something very refreshing, and I'll bet very benefical, in going from a couple of years of low-rep, long rest period stuff to timed, light-high-rep exercises.

Absolutely! I had a lot of fun on it, and had some good gains. If not for the crushing $$$ problems, I would never have stopped.

Re: Road to 400 Log
My last 5 workouts. I'm all over the place, can't stick with a routine... blah blah... but you know what? I've been covering my bases, getting pretty good work in there. I'm not missing anything major, and I feel pretty damn good. [img]/images/graemlins/wink. | |
