Rest Day

Second day of the low carbing. I had roughly 40g carbs all day yesterday. That's a huge change for my body. I felt fine yesterday..today I'm feeling sluggish. So far, I've had maybe 8g carbs. I'm cutting every corner I can right now on the carbs. This is not fun.

It takes about 2 weeks to get over the hump. You'll be OK

Looks like the squats are coming right along too!

2 WEEKS! Oh crap, I might die. :p No lie..man I am really sluggish this morning. On the good side..the cravings for crap are happening less frequently. Oh..and speaking of crap and less frequent..yeah. That too. I guess I need to really concentrate on throwing back some salad every day. My body is so used to a LOT of fiber. Now I'm running on a LOT less. It seems almost impossible to get in a LOT of fiber on low carb unless you have som suggestions.

My plan is to stay really really low for a couple of weeks and then I'm gonna add a bit of oatmeal with breakfast. I'll try and maintain something like -80 once these two weeks of HELL are over.

Oh..and thanks for noticing the squats. It's a really slow progression on everything. Bench is coming too but slow. I've added probably 20 pounds to both over the last 4 months. So..if I could just keep that up..that's great progress. I guess one just has to keep it in perspective. Wat seems like slooow progress is actually great.

Make sure you do eat some leafy greens and low starch veggies or, in other words, salads, broccoli, cauliflower for sure. Sauteed spinach/greens in bacon fat or fat of your choice. Melt cheese on your broc or dip it in ranch dressing. Ranch & caesar dressings are usually your lowest carb choices. Atkins induction is 20gm net (carbs minus fiber) for two weeks.

Good luck!

The squats and swim really push the whole "low carb" envelope.

One thing that you'll probably like is you'll get euphoric pretty quick on your swims and then get this big "burst" of energy. Pretty much any time you're feeling like ass, do a little cardio (10min worth, take the stairs or something), you'll feel better.

IMO fat helps a lot more than fiber with taking dumps. It might be a personal thing but I'd take a piece of bacon over an orange if there's trouble with #2!

Wow Atkins induction is 20g! Dang that's low. I probably had that in green beans yesterday. I guess I need to look up the foods and keep a tally for this first couple of weeks.

Your suggestions sound yummy. One does have to be really creative to avoid carbs.

euphoric! Holy crap I can't wait to hit the pool. I'll keep the bacon in mind. Next time I'm grinding one out...I'll shout "Honey! I need bacon!!!":p

I thought I'd read that you were doing only 8g of carbs/day. You definately do not need to go down to 20g. It's hard and it'll hurt your workouts probably. The t-dawg diet at t-nation has it at 70g on non workout days and 100g on workout days.

I think its a good idea to stay pretty low for the first couple weeks, but I tended to be lax on carbs in cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, etc. even in the first two weeks. Congrats on the great start. Keep posting, while we hope you have no/few lapses don't let them get you down.

Naa..I had only done like 8g up to lunch time yesterday. So I am being strict. But I ended the day out totaling around 40-50g all vegs and a lil milk.

I've had my carb limit today. Ate chinese for lunch but I steered completely clear of rice\noodles and went strictly for meat and vegs. But I'm aware that their sauces have a high content so I tried to do the drier meats and some fish. Even at that, I'm sure I've had a good 50g today already. But this is still much lower than my usual. (hi, I'm Jimbo. I'm a carbaholic)

Feeling lethargic on this diet so far. First day I was pumped and energetic. Probably just excited to be doing something different. Now..just lethargic. Workout this evening should be interesting. Looking forward to that uephoria Gob promised me.:p

1x7x60
1x8x55

Squats
1x8x155
2x8x185
1x8x155

Swam 1234m

Workout went well though I couldn't get to any friggin thing in the gym. Was too crowded. Swim felt nice but ran out of time from all the waiting around I had to do.

Diet..well..I ended up a little higher carb than I really wanted to.Wife made chili With beans for supper. I ended up like 124g carbs for the day. Oh well..I feel less lethargic today but today will be more focused on watching those carbs.

Total calories was up. Here's the breakdowns.

Today's Foods
Food Name Servings ServSize Cals Fat Carb Prot
Broccoli, chinese, cooked .5 cup 10 0 2 1
Chili with beans 3 cup 860 42 91 44
Egg, whole, boiled 1 large 77 5 1 6
Egg, white only, cooked 2 white 33 0 1 7
Salsa, red, cooked 2tblspn 13 1 1 0
Cheese 1 cup 171 13 2 11
Milk, cow's, fluid, 1% fat .5 cup 102 3 12 8
Almond chicken 1 cup 185 10 11 14
Chicken, meat only 3 cup 798 31 0 122
Mixed nuts 2tbspn 111 10 4 3
Totals 2360 116 124 215

OK..I have fixed/aligned that data 3 different times. Screw it. Sorry it's hard to look at. Suffice it to say that my carbs were at 124 for yesterday. Good protien intake at 215. Total calories 2360 which is a little higher than I wanted but today is another day.

That's the real kicker. If you're performing well enough, you're doing well enough. Hang in there and push through it!

I can't believe how sore my lats are today. Lats sore all the way around on my back. The only thing different I did was having to jerk those 60# DB's off the floor and set them on my knees for the incline benching. Guess I needed that..

The last 2 days I have totally sucked at low carbing. I've ended up WAY over what I intended. So I set my resolve..today is gonna be better. So what happens during lunch. The waitress brings me SWEET tea instead of unsweetened. After adding the splenda to it..it seemed a bit sweet..but I'm thinking I just did a really good job on the Splenda. But I ask her when she returns to refill my glass. Good thing I'm not trying to control my sugar intake in a life or death matter. Holy hell. I said UN-Sweetened. rant rant rant rant rant.

She apologized..I said no big deal thanks. Crap. She still charges me for it. It was her tip.

Yes. Low carbing is making me a little grouchy.

http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...Owner=jchf6230

I'm still on track today though. Doing good despite the WORLDS efforts to thwart me from my mission.:p

Racks were taken again.

Inc.DB Bench
1x8x45
3x8x55

Bent over rows
3x8x55

DB Hammer Curls
3x8x35

Swam 250 yards. 10 laps. Whatever that is in meters. Tired of converting my swims to metric. .
I cut my swim short cuz a muscle in my back started spasming. Was like my lat on my left side/back.

Going to bed.

Don't sweat the tea. Was it ideal? Nope. Was is beyond your control? Yep! I kind of go with the idea that I control what I can control and I make choices/orders based on what it's supposed to be. Since it's not life or death for me, I'm able to let slips slip.

Yeah. I just wanted to rant. I don't get to do that at home.:p

I'm doing pretty well otherwise. HOwever, I haven't inducted myself into keto staying at or below 20g I can tell ya. I am managing to keep it below 80 though. I actually picked the beans out of my chili today. Fitday doesn't have a listing for homemade chili on their. I'm having to use "canned" and it's a little high on carb count. I''m not sure what the actual is for my wifeys homemade chili. I'd rather pick out the beans at work than tell her to change her recipe. She's one great cook! I don't rock the cook's boat.

Don't worry about keto levels if you don't want to. It'll vary for everyone. I never bought ketostix to make sure and I lost weight easily so... Beans aren't too bad -- at least they're high fiber and some more protein.

Recipes can be run through fitday by using a black day. Then make a custom entry for the chili or whatever. It's not exact, but you can bring it in close too.

I'm actually only aiming at the last little bit of fat to unvail my abs. (vanity weight loss) So..with so little weight to actually lose..I guess I'm skeptical that doing this will give the results. But I did lose quite a lot of weight once upon a time doing low carb when I had .. a Lot to lose. So maybe my body will respond. We'll see. If nothing else, I am getting a proper amount of protien each day now.

(sets x reps x weight)

BB Flat Bench
2x8x155
1x4x165
1x8x135

Hang Cleans (first time in a Lonnnng time)
1x8x65
1x10x95

Crunches
1x15xbw
2x15xbw+16

Hammer Curls
2x8x35

Swam 1600yds - mile

I walked in feeling lethargic. My diet was a little off today. Too low on calories. So that coupled with low carbing = Jimbo was weak. The hang cleans kicked my arse. I like em and will be adding those to my next couple of weeks.

On a good note I'm down 2 pounds to 173(more like 172.5) I can't see where it came off so I'm not too excited about it but at least it's the direction I want to go. Just hope I don't lose too much of the precious little muscle I have.

Hang Cleans
1x8x45
1x8x95
1x8x105
1x8x115

Bench 1x8x115 and said screw that.

Hammer curls 1x8x35 was standing there curling thinking shit..maybe I'll go swimming.

Swam 822.96m. My May goal was 15000 meters. I have a total of 27,020 meters so far (there's still tomorrow) that's 180% of my goal. {gloat gloat}

I did like NO lifting after those hang cleans but those things are brutal. I like it in a sadistic way. Anyway, a year ago I could only do like 95 on those. I could have went heavier this morning but I was pretty tired and decided not to. I'll start heavier next time. again...{gloat gloat}

OHH and I've lost 3 pounds. Down to 172 in one week. Think that's too fast a loss?

Good job on the cleans. Is their a reason that you do them from a hang vs the floor?

Yeah. Protecting a weak low back. I can't do dl's either..I'm actually pulling these from the rack. I'll lower them over time.

I figure these "rack pulls" might help me strengthen some things up and eventually lead me back to doing some dl'ing some day.

Makes sense. Just wondered more than anything. I can pull from the ground pretty good (it feels natural) and suck from a hang.

I figure I could probably clean more weight if I came from the floor with better momentum but I'd risk my low back till I get my flexibility and strength in order.

Yeah, coming from the rack there's less room for momentum doing the pull. Making Jimbo a sore boy.

Pain..just weakness leaving the body.

Low carbing is f'king up my motivation in the gym. I felt fin yesterday but today blah. I need to mess around with the few carbs I'm getting. I need to stick them in 30 minutes b4 my training to see if that helps. I guess any bi change like this in diet takes time to work out.

Anyway..not an impressive day in the gym. But I was in there anyway.

Tried some more hang cleans.
1x8x45
1x8x95
1x8x115
(I intended on going heavier here..but I was OUT OF STEAM)

The PT in my head had lost his voice and I couldn't hear him screaming at me anymore. I think he had passed smooth out.

I dicked around doing a set of chins, a set of crunches..

Benched 1x8x135, 2x8x155

Said screw it. Went swimming.

Swam 1645.92m(mile) I guess that does it for May. My May goal was 15000m I swam a total of 28666.16m - 191% of Goal for May. Now I have to set a goal for June. Oh crap.

You are a swimming machine!
Hang cleans are looking good too. I have to work on these myself. I tried from the floor and my knees seem to get in the way. When I do them from a hang I can't seem to get enough power and wind up just doing a fast reverse curl.

I have the same issue getting around my knees from the floor which is one reason I'm doing the hangs. I know it's because I don't pull my hips back far enough which is why I (and you if I remember right) have low back issues when I try to do DL's.

And your right. It's really hard to generate enough power to get the bar up from the hang. I use my legs as much as possible but with less range of motion it's hard to get the momentum. I just try to concentrate on pulling the bar straight up my body and then catching the bar. Requires using the legs, pushing from my toes, arms pulling and a big shrug. I do pretty well when I think along those lines. I try to avoid doing the reverse curl but I catch myself doing it a bit too when I'm tiring out. These hang cleans have made my traps really sore.

I forgot to mention in my log that I added a set of one legged DL. King DL? Those are tough. I need to do them more often.

On the swimming..I've dug me a hole for June. New June goal of 30,000m. Junes gonna be a serious swim month if I'm gonna meet that goal.
