Monday - April 7, 2008

BW Chins - 5x5 (I worked these sets in SS style during dips and squats)
BW dips - 3x8
Front Squats - 8x3x115

My flippin arms/biceps are so sore from Friday's workout I was hesitant to do one today. But Mahler skeer'd me so I pushed through one. Glad I did.

I'm still waiting for my NROL book to come in so I can follow a professionally designed routine. Not that MY routine isn't WELL ROUNDED and PROFEXTIONAL! I mean come on! How hard can it be to create a marketable routine.

Think I'll call mine screwin around with weights and stuff.

Yeah, you should be skeered. Watch out for that crazy old man...

Can't wait until you start doing NROL. Then you'll understand why there's so much bitching and moaning in these logs!

LOL Bill those comments should keep me safe at least long enough for him to chase after you a while.

I am excited about doing the NROL workouts. I've read enough to know that there are several "flavors" in there..ie..fat loss vs. hypertrophy vs. strength. I'm not sure which I will go with. One would think..well..what are your goals egghead?! But it seems despite what a routine is built for..I get the same kind of results..I get stronger..I MIGHT trim a little fat..and I MIGHT grow a little muscle. (very little)

So..my goal is general fitness and get stronger. I will most likely choose the program that I like the looks of best. ie..the one that uses the moves I like best.

My books arrived at the post office today..somone should be picking them up tomorrow morning. woohoo.

NROL has some great workouts along with 4 different suggested progressions through them. No matter which path you choose, you should see some great results. I just started on Strength I again and I'm loving it after only 1 workout so far.

P.S. I'll be right here with Mahler helping to make sure you don't slack off!

Friday - April 11, 2008

BB Flat Bench Press - Warm up set 1x8x135, work set 8x3x155
Cable Face pulls - 3x8x50
BO DB Lat Raises - 3x10x10
Dips - 1x8xbw (Shoulder did not feel good so I stopped after one set)
Incline DB Bench Press - 5x5x45
BO DB Rows - 5x5x55

Legs/glutes are sore from deads Wednesday. All in all I feel really good. Going forward cautiously adding weight to my lifts. I intend to progress but very gradually. moving upward weight or rep wise every other week or so.

This is a marathon not a sprint.

Avoiding injury at all cost. I may miss some gains but..meh..I'm at a good weight for my height and I no longer throw up in my mouth when I look at myself naked in the mirror. All is well.

Sounds like a good plan, Jemmie. Injury-avoidance at all cost. It's a little humbling to the ego but makes a lot of sense in the long-run.

You're right on the mark about the ego. There is certainly a direct coorelation between ego and injury in my past history of injuries. Lifting too much too soon and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone there.

Course..we all learn this the hard way.

Ego aside, it also takes a while to "get to know" ones body. Experience is, unfortunatley, the best teacher and pain leaves an enduring influence on a person.

Case in point..still nursing a bad left shoulder caused by doing a pyramid scheme on weighted dips to "see just how much I could actually lift".

it was just dumb...

If you didn't do something stupid now and then you wouldn't have any good stories!

I hope I don't have anymore stories in that case. Well..at least related to lifting. Odds are though..I will have some. Stupid is as stupid does.
