Glad you bumped this, Tony.
Hey, Jimbo-- you're still in my thoughts and prayers.

Jimbo, what's going on with the back? Anything I can do to help?

Holy crap! I can see I need to be checking in once in a while huh? I feel bad for staying out. I guess being a slug has made me want to avoid the usual places (er uh..the training logs) but I really feel bad for missing these posts. I think you all know what's been up. So anyways..thanks.

You said not to go looking in your log for inspiration, but that's not right as far as I can see. There's plenty of inspiration to be had in here, and even now when you are struggling. Many people aren't strong enough to even share when they are struggling. And you are. You would be suprised how much it helps others to know that someone else has gone/is going through the same thing they are. Even in your struggles, you can help others.
Here's to you and sharing the good and the bad.

No, actually here's to you, Mel. There's no doubt you are right when you point out that we can help others through our struggles. I do feel like I'm coming out of the funk I've been in. And thanks, in part, to good folks like you. Welcome to the boards and thanks for you very kind words.

and for all of you help Julie.
And..thanks for all those friends here that said nothing..but thought about it. Good intentions are good enough for me! And I mean that.
I really do feel like I'm coming out of the cloud I have been in.
I'm getting excited about getting back to lifting again! I'm looking at purchasing some weight equipment..or..I may just jump back in the gym depending on what I find. But who cares what I choose! The point is, I just want to rock and roll.
My back is feeling well (i promise to be careful Julie)
I hope everyone here is doing well. I hope I haven't missed too much.
I promise to be checking back in here daily again.
OH..and I WILL be posting some lifts soon.

I'm glad to hear that you are getting back on track Jimbo. You are starting to sound like your old self again. We are looking forward to the new workouts. I predict lots of soreness for the first week and then some crazy strength gains after that.

I have no doubts you are right at least about the soreness! No crystal ball required on that one. I hope you're right about the strength gains too.
I'm still "toying" with the idea of setting up a home gym but have very limited space. I found a pretty decent deal on craigslist..a guy in a town near me and have been corresponding with him. Waiting for him to respond telling me what kind of bench he is selling. (I want one that I can use for squatting) Academy sport has one for $99 so I may end up doing that one. Hard to beat a squat set up for that price. But I would still need weights. So getting set up is a wee bit on the expensive side. Space issues aside.
I'm gonna get back on the train soon. I'm gaining belly fat like crazy..course that's not a lack of exercise..lack of will power. Eating everything in sight. I can only hope I might be adding a little muscle mass with it.

*Jealous*
Opinions on home gyms have changed pretty dramatically over the past year or so. Be a cheap ass and get you a few sand bags, a couple of heavy DB's, and figure out something to do chin Ups from and you're golden . You can make a medicine ball out of an old basketball. Maybe get a jump rope if you want to splurge. A couple 4x4's and a sheet of ply-wood for a box. Maybe a weighted vest (luxury item). OK so maybe "cheap ass" might not be the best description, but if you're willing to twist your mind a little it doesn't have to take up too much room or be "too" expensive.
I'm getting all giddy, just thinking about it.

Isn't Lostdog using sandbags? Sounds brutal. I'm not so sure I'm ready for that kind of challenge. I can see a back blow out from all the stabalization required. I mean, I know what I can and cant do with free weights..sandbags? Well that would be a whole new territory. (In short, I'm a skeered lil puss) There. I said it.
Funny thing is, I googled sandbag training and "BEHOLD" there are lots of trainers SELLING sandbags with programs. Kinda defeats the purpose huh? LOL

start off with a lighter load. you can get 50lbs of sand for like 4 bucks. split it in to two bags (or stick half in the corner). You can certainly handle damn near anything that's 25lbs right? Work on your conditioning for a little bit then bust out with a 50lbs bag. After that gets boring make a "heavy" one.
outside the box man, outside the box

Now see there. You are dashing all my reasonings to pieces for buying Mr. Fancy pants weights and benches and bells and whistles.. How can I have a brag-a-docious set up without all that? How?! How!?
You make some very good points there. I guess it IS possible to train on a budget..

Well, if you're anything like me, you're doomed. I cannot get through Christmas without dessert - it's just part of the traditions. I accept it and work around it. At least in Canada we have a longer recovery stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas!
