Well, I'm done for. Knee was bloated with fluid this morning. This is going to negate this evening's workout too. To 'celebrate' I've downed 5 monster chocolate chip cookies (the HUGE kind) while icing my knee and keeping it up in hopes this won't totally screw up my vacation. I'm pretty irritated because I know this swelling can continue unabated for weeks - the irritation causes a vicious cycle of more swelling. (Obviously I have been here before many times).
It was either my running or my front squats or a combo that did this.

Sorry to hear about the knee K. I'm trying to get mine through the summer, but it's not looking good either. I'm going to a doctor later this week. Have you been yet?

LOL. Yeah, both knees have been operated on, both lacking most if not all of their respective lateral meniscus. I've been down this road with both as well - tears in what's left of the medial meniscus sets off inflammation. I had it for 2 years after my last surgery. I've had my knees drained more times that I care to think of, but recently (the last 5 years) have been very very good.
Blah - I should've known the running/squats would catch up to me at some point.
Good luck with yours Eric.

Thanks, and I hope yours gets better soon. I'm sure mine is fine, nothing a few Guiness can't take care of on Thursday.
Hopefully your knee and the weather will look up soon, and you can get out on the road. I've been trying here, but it seems when the weather is nice, I'm getting blown off my bike, so I'm waiting for the weather too.

Not painful, just irritating. Fluid filled. Right now I can bend it about 90 degrees and that's all.

Hey K, I was just thinking of something. Are you taking fish oils or glucosame chondroitin at all? Correct me if I'm wrong, but fish oils should help a bit with the swelling, and glucosame chondroitin should help with the cartilage damage....I could be just blowing smoke out mi arse too, but it is a thought...

LOL again Eric! I am the poster child for G+C. I've been taking it now for over 7 years - longer than any clinical human trial! I have upped the dosage a bit in the last 2 days to try to aid any healing.
Fish oil - gotta look into that. Thanks.

Mmm, cookies and candy. Lots and lots. Eating like crap when you can't workout is fun. Comfort in food to treat depression is HIGHLY underrated. Thus, the downward spiral may begin.
Obviously, no workout today. Knee didn't get worse, and the swelling went down a bunch. That's the good news. The bad is that there is definitely a meniscal tear - the lack of swelling coupled with the right movement = brief sharp pain. We'll see if I can get over this like I have in the past, or have to get scoped like I have in the past. I hope not the latter - I am not a good healer.

I know Kaiser, take the cookie and put it on your knee, that way it goes straight to the source and no guilt or downward spiral.
emotional eating.....that's soooo me.

Kaiser, sorry to read about your knee. That sucks! I hope it heals well before bicycling season. I thought I posted this yesterday, but it either vanished or I hit the wrong button! (Senility setting in at age 38 )

He's BAAAAACK.
Did you go on the Aerosmith ride? How many hot spring break college girls did you see?

Aww.. thanks Nick. At least someone missed me.
I'll post some pics later this evening. No on the Aerosmith ride (my older one wouldn't go with me). I'll admit - loads and loads of very cute coeds (and admittedly even HS girls probably - I can't guess age well).
The COOLEST thing by far was 'Turtle Talk with Crush' - the surfer turtle from 'Finding Nemo'. You can read about it here and here . Amazing - and that is coming from a very jaded veteran of WDW.

Aww.. thanks to you too C. And another congrats on your great race.
Some warm weather and some cold - but lots of fun. Knee - comsi comsa. Jury's out but at least the swelling is gone. However, I may have strained or partially torn or my achilles tendon... or it may be something else. Hopefully will find out tomorrow.
Anyway, because of all this, here's some reports. To | |
