The whole squish thing. It had been awhile since we had addressed "the squish."

Tuesday, December 25th
Was too tired after teaching, and so even though I had packed my gym bag, I went right by the gym and right home. I think it was because I had my lunch at 11:30 and then nothing until then (class is over aty 7PM). I was more hungry than anything and after 80 minutes on my feet, I just wanted to kick up and eat and relax.
Then, later in the evening, I ate 3 big chocolate chip cookies (each has about 80 kcals). Ugh. I was doing good, really good, for the day until then. That probably put me into surplus by about 300 kcals. Oh well. No cheat day this weekend then - it's all fungible when it comes to calories.
On the positive side, on Sunday, I am taking the 9 hour (yes, 9 hours!) certifcation course to become a spinning instructor. That includes about 3 hours of spin time. I'm gonna be tired!!

9 hours!? Wow! I don't know that I've done anything for 9 hours straight. What all is involved in a course like that.
As for the cookies, I firmly believe that you need to do that once in a while. It helps with the constant cravings, and just plain tastes good. Plus, it provides motivation since you end up feeling so guilty about it.

Exactly. I had three chocolate chip cookies today from the dining hall. MMM MMM good, and I can go without them for a week or so.

You can sleep for that long, right?
What's involved? About $300. Actually you can read about it more here.

Hey Kaiser! So how yummy were those cookies?? Since it's YOUR log, I'll confess that I've been having a love affair with almond butter right out of the jar. Ouch on calorie density, but it's good fat, right?? Mix it in with a few chocolate chips and it's a perfect good fat/(what's in dark chocolate that's good for you?) treat.
I wouldn't make it to the gym after such a long day either. Have you thought of making Tues your rest day? Especially if you're going to miss your afternoon snack.
Can't wait to hear about the leggy male spin instructor and whether or not he is better than the blondes

Hey capp.... with abs like yours, you can afford it! You can bounce a quarter off of them.
What's in dark chocolate that's good for you? Polyphenols.
I haven't had a problem the previous two weeks making it to the gym, so I think that it was an issue of missing my afternoon snack and just being hungry. The negative with the teaching is that it has thrown my eating and workout schedule into flux.
Well, I'll post my log from yesterday next, but I'm getting decent results now (maybe the caffeine is working?). This morning my weight was down again another pound from last week, althuogh the fat level was around the same (but the overall trend is down). My measurements all show the same (give or take an eighth of an inch) except the waist, which continues to go down (down another 1/8" in the last 10 days. So, HOPEFULLY, the weight I am losing is fat and not muscle. We'll see. I FEEL thinner... almost skinny now. That's good because maybe my brain will tell me body to drop the fat.

Sorry I made you wait to hear this report, C.
Wednesday, January 26th
Intervals
The same guy who taught Monday subbed today.... pretty much the same class, ending with the Stomps. Good workout, good kcal burn. Although he doesn't get me to go as hard all out as Darcy, the tall lleggy blonde. And, no, C, this guy is not leggy, but he is a real outdoor rider who I don't look down upon, unlike many of the spin instructors who don't ride outdoors. I was soaked at the end of class.
Diet
RMR 1480
Exercise 771
Food 1921
Deficit 330
21%P/35%C/44%F of which a whopping 11% of total was saturated (cookies - luckily now they are gone).
Overall, my macros for the last 30 days on days I have logged are as follows:
27%P/40%C/33%F of which 7% of total is saturated.
Not bad, and it appears to be meeting my goal of preserving muscle. I could up the Protein a bit and cut back on the fat.
I'm going to try to climb on Thursday, lift legs on Friday, take a break on Saturday in preparation for the spin thing on Sunday.
Ah, the ability to sleep for 9 hours straight. Seems like a distant memory nowadays. My children somehow enjoy getting up around 6 or 6:30 every morning, which pretty much shoots the crap out of 9 hours of sleep. I can dream, though, can't I?
Either way, sounds like a long day, but a fun one. Best of luck on your exam!

If I keep it up though, I won't have that luxury though. Doesn't what you crave have something to do with what your body needs?

Interesting choice of words here.
Only wish I felt that way 365 days a year instead of about half that

Yea! It's all about the way you feel. The brain just has to catch up with you so you can see it in the mirror

Thanks C! Not quite that immediate for the certification though. Have to study some more and take a test and then get certified. Leggy? Umm, with a 31" inseam? I don't think so.

Why is that an interesting choice of words?
[whispering]Hmmm, water weight gain.
Yeah, I think that is your body's way of telling you it wants certain micronutrients. Or that you are eating to fulfill a psychological need instead of a physiological one.
Thursday, January 27th
Since my wife made me steak fajitas for lunch, and I don't know the kcal breakdown, no logging today (I sense a bad trend here). I went wall climbing afterwards and got about 65 minutes in before it became way too crowded and I just left.
Happily, JP says he might be coming up to Chicago for business for three days in February, and then will stay with me for another 2 or 3. I told him we'd go climbing and just hang out. I think he's going to find I am WAY too laid back for him. Hey Cap, why don't you join him and come up here. We've got three guest bedrooms, a Tanita BF scale, and a kitchen scale!
