Here's a pic of me climbing when I was in shape:

100 foot wall at Lakeshore Athletic Club, downtown Chicago.

I'll post some pictures of our new climbing wall when they get on the internet. In a word, wow.

That looks like a lot of fun. 100 feet? Yikes. At a company retreat a few months ago, I climbed a wall that was maybe 25 feet tall, and my forearms were shot by the time I got to the top. (I got to ring the bell at the top, though, which made it all worth it. ) I can't imagine trying to go 100 feet. I'd have two limp slabs of meat hanging off my sides before I got halfway up. Stupid question, though - what's with all of the different colors of tape?
Oh, and don't beat yourself up too much about your night out - sometimes you need to do something like that to jumpstart the motivation again (although I certainly agree that and can certainly help with the motivation part ).

JC, thanks for those pics and the encouragement. Yeah, Evangeline Lily is beautiful because of her outdoorsy-ness, which they play on in 'Lost' - they've had her climbing trees two or three times in the show, and after I read that she is a rock climber (and it shows in her upper body physique too), it made sense. But she has a rock solid body as well. Check out Jennifer Garner's arms and shoulder in that pic too. She is pretty slender, but also in good shape. Mmmmm. LOL.
The wall at my gym is 34 feet, and there is a 42 feet one at a sporting goods store by our house. But, yeah, the 100 foot one was tough for me. The tape indicates routes - if you are climbing a green route (which is a certain difficulty rating, like a 5.9), then you can only use those holds marked with that color. In this case, I am 'rainbow climbing' - using every freakin' large hold and color at my disposal without worrying about routing - because I know my arms will be shot soon enough on a climb that long.
PS: Ben that pic wasn't meant for you, but for Capp. Thank you for refraining from commenting.

Most of the people at my gym have refrained from the cell phone stuff...thank goodness because that would a another pet peeve of mine! Although this one does get to me. On Friday nights, one of the best time to work out by the way, they have open gym night or something (YMCA) and all the kids come into the weightlifting area and guess what they do? They load up the Smith Squat Machine (or the bench press) and try and lift more weight than what they weigh. I watched a couple of them try and do this and they are lucky they didn't get hurt. And then they leave with the weights right where they left them. URGH! I have no problems with kids being in there, but they need some instruction on safety before they start doing that stuff. I meant to tell the people at the front desk but their about as dense as a 2x4 so it wouldn't have done any good. I've resolved that the next time this happens I'll talk to them. At least tell them to put the plates back where they got them.

Thursday, January 20th
Resistance
TBOM, Weeks 8-10, Workout B, Chest, Back, Bis, Tris. OK. Didn't do real well on the bench presses. Got it done though, and did go up in weight.
Diet
RMR 1480
Exercise 404
Food: 1,586
Deficit 298
28%P/44%C/28%F of which 7% of total was saturated.
Randy Remarks
-Thank God this phase is almost over. I'm sick of it.
-I should never lift so late if I haven't eaten dinner. I did have a MRP shake before lifting, but that didn't cut it.
-It turns out yesterday's break was good. Was checking the calendar and I had worked out 7 days in a row, so I needed a rest.
-Did 6 fingertip pullups at the metolius board after lifting. Very happy about that since my arms were fried from the resistance workout.
-Here's my motivation again:
And last but definitely not least:
Oh yeah, my wife too, but she doesn't give a flyin crap what I look like and she isn't as ripped as any of the three ladies above.

Good, you're going after the women tonight. Nice to see you've found someone other than me.
Now I'm off to sleep. Gotta be energized for my 9AM espanol clase.

I hope that last sentence wasn't a pot shot at your wife. Next thing you know, you will be giving a personal confession on the internet affair thread.

Statement of fact. She doesn't care if I am fat or thin (although she doesn't want me to bulk up too much - she thinks it looks like I am 'trying too hard'). And she isn't as ripped as Evangeline, Jennifer, or Capp.
After almost 17 years, I can take pot shots without getting into too much trouble.

Friday, January 21st
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I neither workd out nor logged today. Right now, we are getting dumped on, an expected 12" of snow by the time it stops tomorrow afternoon. I'll be working out (shoveling) tomorrow!
