Well gentlemen, I graduated from Marine Corps OCS on Friday and now am ready to get back in the lifting and running saddle again.
I lost about 4 lbs over the past six weeks. I started out at 143, 5'11", and this morning I was at 139. I definitely lost some muscle and gained some fat, as my fairly defined abs now are fairly hidden.
My goal is to put on some muscle. I'll set my goal at ten pounds by the end of September. The problem is that I'm also committed to having an intense running schedule (probably 30-40 miles/week).
Does anybody have a specific workout that they can suggest? Not just the general "focus on compound lifts" kind of advice. I've had marginal success writing my own Westside program in the past, but I'm by no means a professional or even a well-educated amateur.
Thanks in advance for any help.

KM,
congratulations and welcome back. it's been a while.
as for a routine, a bunch of us just started Scrawny to Brawny last week (there's a new sub-forum of the same name on the main page). the first 4-week phase is geared toward correcting imbalances, but the second phase 4-week phase consists of three 5x5 routines. maybe you could jump right into Phase 2 and start eating like a horse. the book also provides invaluable nutritional information and a sample diet to pack on some muscle. I forget how phase 3 is designed but i think it's more of a 10x3 routine. pick it up a store and take a look.
can't speak to the running aspect of your schedule beyond that it'll definitely slow down your gains.
good luck.

If you gained bodyfat from going through OCS, then you're the man. I take it you didn't join for the discipline.
Congratulations!

Thanks gentlemen, especially you, MarineWithEgo. It's crazy how disciplined some of the candidates are. I was on firewatch at 0-dark-thirty one morning and found one guy doing pullups on a chinup bar out in the ladderwell; I had more than one group conversation on marathon strategies. I tell ya, being back in the civilian world is a shock...

Yeah, well this idiot helps design and get your weapons into the field. As someone who works at GD to help support your ass, I take huge offense to your comment.

That reminds me of my flight home on leave after bootcamp. I sat at the POA for the three hour flight and thought about how undisciplined everybody was. It was a big shock! It took me a few months to chill out.

Please go back, take our your BDU's and read the post again as someone outside of the military and ask yourself how you might take it when you job involves supporting the military.
What if I made the comment....Marines are idiots and jarheads. Would you take offense? It's was such a stupid comment, like 5th grade level...
It's really boils down to respect, but maybe they didn't teach you that during boot camp. Only how to clean your bolt carrier and barrel.
And this is really out of character for a Marine, coming from someone who has 3 close friends that are Officers.

newlife> he's probibly been called a jarhead enough that it doesn't bother him, simular to "Air Farce" comments, ect. ect.
I'm not sure that insulting him is going to make the situation any better. Let's get along. I appologised for being rude, let's move on, stop insulting each other and wasting forum space.

I have been disrespected several times on the internet for being a Marine, but not once has it happened to my face. I wonder why that is? That's why I don't sweat it. If I took offense to everything that was said on here, I would cause myself a lot of unneeded stress.
If you look back and read the post you will notice that you started with the personal attacks at me. I don't care if your friends with the sgtmaj of the marine corps. If you weren't a Marine then you weren't a Marine. You seem to have a lot of built up anger about that. Oh well, you can always join a paintball club and pretend.

KM congrats on completing OCS, i finished Marine OCS last summer. I bet you had to deal with SSGT Wright. I gained body fat while i was up there too, i think its impossible not to with all the crap they feed you in the chow hall. Both times I came home a faster runner but my strength was shot. Also its a real shocker when you leave the base and get to the airport and there is all of those overweight out of shape people walking around slow as hell. By the way where are you from?
