Adam I saw the new issue of MF and I am impressed. Its kinda Mens Healthish but has some differences that made it a good issue. Congrats on getting people like Craig B and Chad W to write stuff. I look forward to see how the mag goes.
I will say though, you need to throw some experts in the forum. That place is waaayyyyyy behind the times and Ive tried posting there out of magnanmity but it is seriously hard headed and lashes out at anything that is not straight up bodybuilding.

I'm not Adam, but I think I can say this artfully without getting either of us into trouble:
Experts are actively discouraged from posting on forums at MH and MF. In fact, I can think of two experts who've been forbidden to post, albeit for different reasons.
If you want to interact with experts, I think t-nation and JP Fitness are the only places that actively encourage it.
Pity posting is fine on the magazine sites, if you feel compelled to share your knowledge. But if you want to add to that knowledge, I'd say you've come to the right place.
Neither mag (MF or MH) has much going for it on the forums anymore, IMO. That MH Fitness one is seriously overrun with the lazy and the unmotivated. Searching it still yields good results, but few seem to realize the function exists. Most want their hands held or an easy way. My lovehandles would indicate I haven't found the easy way yet either
With the experts discouraged, it explains a lot of the problem. I guess I can understand not GIVING away the knowledge for free, when it's your livelihood...
Chris, I think that's why the experts like to post. I know for me, answering a few questions before I get into my major work for the day helps charge up my batteries and get my mind focused.
Tony, I can't reveal which experts have been told not to post, or why. But the upshot is that you can find more of us here, and fewer of us there.

Good point. I'd bet the same guys who made that decision at MH were the guys who replaced a yearlong Mejia routine with Leg Curl posters.
The MF experts and writers are only going to get better. (Hopefully, we'll have some surprises that will blow your mind soon.) It's not perfect yet, but I expect our FEBRUARY (it hits newsstands January 4th, I think) issue to really turn the corner. So if you like what you're reading now, just wait.
GQ: I've learned I have to be careful about anything I post on message boards, so: No comment. (Is that cryptic enough?) I will say that JP's message board is awesome, which is why I have taken up residence here. Also: See Lou's post

I agree I love this site and its one of the two where I go for actual advice. Other sites like MH, are more for setting newbies on the right track than anything else.
I seriously dont see that forum picking up unless theres helpful expert advice. Heck you, Mike, and Lou kept things in check for a while at MH and helped get forum vets to take over.
Oh well, I look foward to the Feb issue.

I rarely visit their forum anymore because there is nothing new and I get bored with the same posts over and over by January gym members who you know will stop working out in a month.
As far as the mag goes, I just don't get much from reading it anymore. MF is just the opposite, I signed up for a subscription because the last 2 issues have been really great. That probably means that MH will not get renewed when the time comes.
I'm definitely not renewing my MH subscription....No offense Lou!
MF is most definitely a keeper.
MH Muscle is also WELL worth my time. I keep my "signed" copy of it in a safe place so that Mrs. Bond doesn't try and toss it out like all my MH issues! UGH!

Oh, yeah, Eric Cressey from over at Ruggedmag is contributing soon as well.
Did I mention that we have a "Special" coming up that (Jan 17th, I think) that will feature an Alwyn Cosgrove arms workout. (That's right, AC agreed to design an "arms" workout. Don't worry; it includes deadlifts.) Just as important, a great CB "cardio" article (not aerobics!), a Bill Hartman "design your own fat loss workout" story, and get this: Cottage cheese recipes from our own John Williams, aka Johnka. (Oh, yeah, a "truth about low-carb diet" story from Jeff Volek.)
Sorry, it's getting hard for me to contain my excitement. By February, I hope to corner the market on great fitness info.

Hey Adam, I'm curious - while we, the 'hardcore' fitness readers, are loving the direction that MF is taking (and hating the direction MH is heading), how are the overall numbers for circulation? I'm just wondering if the more and more fluffy MH gets, the more and more general consumers who aren't really into fitness are buying.
Ok, you guys have convinced me to pick up the latest issue of MF. I'm assuming this stands for Men's Fitness and not the other two words MF could stand for.
Good question, vin. I'm not sure of the numbers for either publication. We just really started to turn things around the last couple of issues, and I can't really speak for MH.
I will say that the advertising numbers are interesting. We're up 70 some percent in ad pages over last year, while most magazines are down. MH is up, but it's a very small percentage (single digits). Chances are if we're growing that well with advertisers, we're growing with readers.
Once we ad more "depth" to our feature stories (in addition to improving our "Personal Trainer" fitness coverage which is pretty good right now), I think our circulation numbers will reflect that fact that readers are noticing (if they aren't already).
Adam that August issue sounds sweet, since its stuff I currently do or will do. I hope that nutrition article takes college guys into consideration. A lot of times the recipies are great and all but impractical to guys in dorms.
Cressey is a very knowledgeable guy.
I really like the "ask the strongman" stuff. Im very interested in strength sports (esp SM) and while Ive done a lot of research for obscure strength sports, the more info the better.

Post your questions for the Strongman. We need good ones that you're really interested in. Mark is a really, soft-spoken but funny guy. He's in Moscow right now at a competition. He's six feet, but he would win more if he were taller. Events like Fingle Fingers and those where he has to place stones on high objects give him trouble. I'll bet that in pure strength, he's up there with anyone.

Wow, this is an awesome line up. I have really liked the new issues that have come out recently. Its going to be like reading JP's forum but much more mobile and easy on the eyes.
Hopefully I can be added to that list in a year or two (or next month if you guys don't mind that lack of experience or certification ). Keep up the awesome work Adam.
Danny

I subscribed to MF as soon as I found out you became the Fitness Editor. Your impact to the magazine has been immediate and the line-ups you have for the upcoming issues are almost too good to be true. It’s no wonder you are having a difficult time containing your excitement.
Thank you for the sound, diverse and current information from so many different experts.

I used to love MH, but for the most part it has gone to the dogs...or maybe I've just outgrown it. The leg curls were the final straw, really. I like the "new look" MF as it is very similar to the "old look" MH, if that makes sense.
I think MH has taken a broader approach to appeal to a larger audience, alienating an important core component of it's base. It's okay, if they know what they're doing and choose to do so. MH Muscle MORE THAN picks up the slack left by the magazine.
Idly thinking.....wonder what JPFitness Magazine would look like....
