Hey Everyone,

For the past roughly 5-6 months I have started to train to be a competitive powerlifter. However in the last 2 weeks a lot of things have happened in my life to make me rearrange my goals. I still eventually want to compete but not anytime soon and I love training using the Westside Method. However, I am looking to loose BF and pick up many of the activities that I have put aside in the quest to be a powerlifter, in particular golf. I am just curious about people's opinions on how they balance their training vs. recreational activities? I understand that by not fully focusing on powerlifting right now I will not be getting the gains I could especially if I plan to cut soon but I wish to get more involved in other recreational activities as well.

Any Thoughts?

Tony

Golf sucks.

Cut back on training (ie lift 3 days a week instead of 4) or cut some volume. Golf on the weekends or whatever. If you enjoy it, do it.

Do both. Unless you're golfing everyday you should still have time to get to the gym 4 times/week or so. The main issue with golf isn't the physical requirements (unless you're walking) it's how much time it takes to play.

I think in the end it does depend on what extra recreational activities you're doing. If I'm planning to golf, I won't think twice about working out prior to going. On the other hand, basketball I wouldn't do on the same day as legs and surfing I wouldn't lift at all the same day.

Thanks Guys,

Yeah that is pretty much how i feel about it...golf isnt that physically demanding so I should be ok...I just feel like by limiting myself to powerlifting right now isn't the best decision for me...I love it but I want to play golf and be more active in general
