I'm 33 and I smoke since I was 14 years old. Until recently I was smoking 20 Marlboro Reds 100 a day. I know I'm weak and I know it's really hard to kick the habit so I'm getting rid of everything that I can associate with cigarettes and have been on Zyban for 2 weeks now. Zyban is giving me some constipation followed by temporary excrutiating abdominal pain. Who cares? 3 months in hell and then the rest of my life in paradise.

Yes NYGUY!! hang in there! and tell us how it's going! I don't know anything about Zyban ... are you followed by a doctor or doing it on your own?

I'm sorry, It's not my intention to bump this post and I apologize for not replying sooner. I have the rude habit of not going back to those threads that I post sometimes.

Marykaa, it's both. I visited the doctor for a basic physical and get some blood works done (78 cholesterol ) and I asked him for Zyban after carefully researching about it and talking to some people I know who had success with it. I tried the patches by themselves in the past but the only way they would have worked was if I rolled and smoked them. Now I'm combining both and I'm keep the doctor aware of my progress. Thanks for the boost!!!!

I smoked from the time I was 8 years old until I was 24. I got disgusted with my addiction while I was in college. Had to go outside to smoke and it was interupting my studies. I just wadded my last pack up and threw it away. It was not easy. But I just held on to the pissed off feeling I had.

Better living through anger.

Millsz, sorry for the late response, how’s things going, were you able to hang in there? To answer your question, No, the cravings never go away, that’s why so many people go back to cigarettes after being quitters for years. The best thing you can do is write down all the reasons you quit, this way you can go back and see them when you have a craving.

I wish you the best in your recovery, and if you didn’t succeed the first time keep trying and never give up, you have to kill the habit before it kills you!

The cravings will go away. I smoked 1 ½ pack a day, and quit 22 years ago, and there was not any patches or gum. The cravings will vary from person to person, based on mental and physical attributes, but eventually, there is a point where you are finally free. It may be 1 year, or 10 years.

The worst part is trying to quit when your spouse still smokes. Been there, done that. It's hell.

Maybe, I still have cravings and they come at times that I least expect it, while i'm out fly fishing is a huge one. I do go days without cravings, and when I do get them they are fast and strong, but they are over quickly. I have been in recovery for over 2 years now, I hope some day they will go away completely.
