What's up guys? I am a long time fan of the board, but have just now registered. I have enjoyed reading all of your tips and post over the last year. I am 5'11, 195 pounds and around 10% body fat (have not had it checked for 3 years and was 215 at the time). I have been goofing around with 225 on the bench for the last couple weeks repping it out as many times as I can. Last night I got it 20 times and was very pleased. Anyone else ever rep that weight out?

Take care.

Welcome.

No, I can say I have done 20 reps of any exercise. I usually use my Max for a movement to see where my lift is going. Have you considered using heavy weights and lower reps? I try to stick around the 1-8 rep range and really never go over 8 unless I am warming up or went too light.

What are your goals? You most likely will not see gains in the 15-20 rep range from my personal experience. What are you doing for a program?

I used to be big into heavy reps and have been doing 5 X 5 over the last couple months. However, I usually break it up with a few weeks of repping out with 225. I have been getting a couple extra reps each week as my endurance has increased. The last heavy set I did was two weeks ago with 285 for 5. I am really into a fast paced workout with supersets....in and out in an hour or so. To me the cardio aspect is just as important.

Isn't repping 225 one of the NFL combine type tests that potential players do.

225x20 would put you up with the elite players.

Welcome aboard and a big thanks to JP for supporting this board.

Yeah, 225 is what the players do at the combine. It depends on position of what they can put up, but yeah that is right up there with a lot of good players.

By the way welcome to the board.

Reps — No. of repetitions lifting 225-pound bench press.

I would consider NFL safetys, running backs, and linebackers some of the biggest, fastest, and strongest athletes out there and playing at an elite level. Above you see some of their reps at 225.

I was always able to rep 225 a significant amount of time for some reason. I want to hit 30 by April or so...I am not saying I am stronger than any pro's by any means. I just think it is fun to test myself like the pro's do in the combines.

Kinda OT question: but where could I get info on the combine tests? Basically I'm after the tests and the scoring system, &/or a DVD with the info on. I know defranco has a video tape with it all on; but cause I'm in the UK, it's the wrong format. I do however have a region 1 DVD player, so USA DVD's aint a problem. TIA

In college football (Division III) we did reps of 225 before the season started basically the coaches used it to check out who trained and how hard in the off season. They also used it to calculate your one rep max. I saw a lot of guys over 20 reps, I wasn't one of them!

F1,
I did a search on yahoo yesterday and came up with a ton of results.

Good Luck

Damn I am jealous of everyone. My bench max is not even 225

Welcome to the board. What took you so long to register???

You did 225 for 20 reps? Holy Shit! I'd be happy just to do it 5 times. (Almost there....)

Yeah, I was around 26 reps last off season..I coach football for a local high school so I work out with the kids. I hope to get back there at the end of our training program. I seem to increase 1-2 reps each week as my endurance goes up. After bench I go to our jammer machine and then weighted dips. I usually hit the pullups hard as well a couple times a week.
