So I'm doing close grip bench on a flat bench with about 12 inches between my hands. Do you guys go all the way down and touch your chest or do you stop 3-4 inches above your chest? I ask because when I go all the way down I feel some strain on my shoulder, not pain, but I doubt its good. Obviously, since I've been feeling this I haven't been going all the way down. Was just wondering what everyone else did.

Thanks a lot.

I go all the way down and touch my chest. I haven't felt any pain in my shoulders. Obviously it's best to avoid going that deep if it hurts. Do you notice shoulder pain while doing dips?

Try lowering to your Sternum/upper rib cage instead of chest.

gymrat - Dips are pain free. They are one of my favorite excercises. I do them on one of my upper body days. On the other upper day I wanted to do something different and was doing some closegrips.

Jerry - I'm having trouble visualizing where exactly I lower the bar too but I think I may be lowering it further up the chest than you suggest. I'm planning on doing closegrip on Wednesday though so I will make sure to give that a try. Thanks.
