Mahler's Monday Morning Motivator # 69
Fitness and Marriage.
Good Morning Guys,
Tomorrow my wife and I will celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I tried to think of some pithy remarks on marriage and it occurred to me that the keys to a good marriage are a lot like the steps to keeping fit. In no particular order here are Mahler’s marriage/fitness tips.
Pick a good routine and stick with it.
Consistency is what will keep you on the right track.
Warm up is the easy part. It’s the daily sets and reps that are tough.
The intensity should increase on a regular basis.
It’s a good thing to know how to lift heavy objects.
Good form is the name of the game.
As in the gym, cleaning up after yourself is a plus.
Don’t bang the weights or abuse the equipment.
Letting her work in is common courtesy.
Spot her once in a while and she will have no problem spotting you.
Make sure the safety bars are locked in place.
Always try to improve with each workout.
Learn more every day.
Give her some pointers only if she asks.
Don’t base your routine on one basic move. Change it up once in awhile.
The longer you are married the more sex resembles drop sets.
It pays to know how to run once in awhile.

Ruth is the love of my life and I would not have it any other way. She has been supportive in my life and in my fitness journey in ways I cannot describe and I wish all of you the same good fortune that I have had in that journey with her.
As we will be cruising to Bermuda next week, there will be no Monday Morning Motivator for June 20th. I have worked hard and hope my body is beach worthy since the younger guys set a tough standard. My best to all of you.

Mahler

Ryan,
Somehow I knew you would be the first to reply. Thanks, my friend.

Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Mahler. Enjoy the cruise. All the young guys will be jealous, and the young women envious of your wife.

Mahler,
Congratulations on your anniversary and thanks for the great post, as usual!
Dang, I just realized that my wife and I have been together (dating or married -- married 16 yrs. in Sept) for 20 years as of September! That means we've spent more of our lifespan together than apart.
I'm sure you are way more than beach worthy. What high standard set by the younger guys?? LOL. I haven't been to a beach for a few years, but I know at the local water park, most of the guys my age look pregnant.

A hearty congrats to you and your wife, John. May you both have many more years of happiness together. I liked the line "Warm up is the easy part. It’s the daily sets and reps that are tough." Yes, they may be tough sometimes, but as with workouts, that's what builds the strength. Good on ya both for hanging in there for over 9000 daily sets! I'm sure your marriage is as strong as can be.

What they said, John.
Congratulations to you and Ruth on 25 years of wedded bliss.
I'm sure it was a lot easier for you than it was for her.
Just one question:
As intensity increases, does frequency have to decrease?
