I am male, 23, 145 lbs, 5'8.

So far I have bought a bar, some adjustable dumbells, weights and a bench press that has 3 adjustable positions.

I have been told that a power rack should be my next purchase, but I am going to hold off on that because, good ones are expensive, and I am just not into weightlifting enough to use one.

However, I am thinking of buying another piece of equipment for doing my abs, and for my back workout. The piece of equipment I am talking about is a free standing pull-up bar with a station for doing captains chair ab crunchs.

I am sure some of you know the piece I am talking about. I am just wondering if this would be a good investment? I can get a fairly heavy duty one for $100. Its used of course, but that does not matter.

I basically want this piece for doing pull-ups and ab excercises.

Also, just to make things clear, I am more interested in getting toned and adding some strenght then putting on a lot of bulk.

I hope some of you can share some advice with me. Thanks for your time.

The "power tower" is a good piece of equipment for you to purchase. $100.00 for a used one is probably a good price (they usually run about $150-$300 depending on the brand) You won't go wrong there. You may also want to get a swiss ball which can be used for various ab and dumbbell exercises.

Invest in a swiss ball, Olympic Bar, PowerBlocks (adjustable dumbbells that go from 5lbs-85lbs) Power rack and thats all you need.

Is an Olympic bar just a really heavy duty one? What other benefits does it have?

I cant even bench press myown weight yet So my little boy bar is still ok for now, if there are no other advantages.

Also, is a Swiss Ball just one of those balls you use to do things like sit ups and work your abs?

On olympic bars. It better for you to get a better o bar then one of those cheap bars. Its not about how much you can bench. You can use it for various exercises such as cleans, snatchs, overhead squats ect. Swiss ball can be use for a substitute for a bench. Its not just for doing crunches its more versital then you think.
