Cool

I had a freakin awesome workout this a.m.!!

Today was deadlift day and, as some of you already know, I've been having nothing but problems with deadlift form. Hitting low back.

Well this morning I thought through the movements all the way to the gym. Last week I had all but given up that I would ever be good at deads. I had decided to do Romanian Deads for a while to see if I could strengthen "whatever was weak in the chain". Because every time I did deads i felt them more in my low back than anywhere else.

Well this morning I finally took the great advice of several wise forumites here and tried Sumo style deads.

I approached the bar with no weight at all. In fact the first few deads were without the bar...getting my stance and feeling which muscles were being used/hit.

Once I found a comfortable stance that hit me through my heels and up through my hams/quads/hips...I went for it.

Sorry for the long post but I AM SO PUMPED!!

BAM! NAILED IT! BAM BAM BAM! Stuck on some more weight. BAM! NAILED IT! I never went too heavy..135# but 12 SETS OF 4 LATER I WAS FEEELING GREAT! No pain in my low back cause that's not what I was hitting friend! I even got JP to critique my form and his words (hope you don't mind JP)
"Perfect."

Thanks to all who have been steering me on my quest for deads! They are no longer dreads!

YEAH!!

Good call, I am going to give sumo a good hard try after some more weeks of postural and structural rehab and see how things go vs my conventional pull...

Awesome Finally getting comfortable with deadlifting the way you want to is a grea feeling!
Don't forget to add in some isolation for lower back though, since if it hurts after conventional deads then it's obviously your weak link and you shouldn't neglect it...

Great to hear you are taming the deadlift monster.
Today was deadlift day for me too. Good job, Jimbo.

I know it was a long rant...but I wuz excited.

Thanks all. You're the only group I can share this kind of stuff with. I can't exactly run home and tell the wife how excited I was about hitting those deadlifts. (eyes would glaze over fast)

Simon - I wuz thinkin the same thing on the low back.. I may add some hyperextensions. But I'm not sure what day. I really like my workout scheme right now. I'll have to think on it and fit it in there.

Congrats, Jimbo. I'm glad you got this exercise down. I love deadlifts (but I also love lunges, too, so I guess that says a lot about me ).

Lunges suck but not much beats a good deadlift. Way to go Jimbo.

Why does eveyone hate lunges so bad?

I have to admit, I would rather watch a chick do squats or deadlifts then lunges.
