I started HGM on Monday. I felt pretty drained after I was done but was still walking. Last night after working outside my legs started to feel sore. Around midnight they were very sore, but not painful. I took some arnica and went back to bed.
Today they're still sore. My arms and stuff are ok, but my quads are still feeling the effects of what I did. I overdid the lunges, using 35 pounds in each hand instead of something lighter.
I'm probably going to go swim in the morning to get some cardio in and do my 2nd workout on Thursday. Question...if I'm still sore on Thursday, should I skip the lunges or do a lighter weight?

If you are injured (which feels or should feel different than sore), tough it out. It is called working out afterall.
"I overdid the lunges, using 35 pounds in each hand instead of something lighter."
Did you do the correct numebr of reps you were supposed to? Did you you do them with good form? IF the answer is yes, then I would say you dodn't do too much weight and you should tough it out.
Lunges make everyone sore I think.
Good luck.

Yes lunges were the hardest part when starting HGM

I did 15/12/8. I think my form was ok, my style matched the videos I've seen but not what others in the gym were doing. Got the proper angles in. I'm used to doing them on a rack with a lot more weight and a barbell vs a dumbell. I guess I'll give it some time. It does feel good in a bizarre sort of way.
Sore I can handle, I've been injured before. Was pulling some fiber to a rack, the ladder fell it was either grab the wall on the way down or land on 250k of hardware. I grabbed the top of the concrete block wall with my arm...landed on my extended arm. Lots of blood where the edges got me, the pain kicked in around 10pm. By midnight I was so sore that if I sat anyway other than 100% upright I was in pain. Hurt like a mofo until they loaded me up with pain killers.

Castufari- if you are just sore, you can still do the lunges..maybe drop the weight like you said, or if they are that sore, do it with no weight..from my experience, if you push through and do it with light weight when sore, it may even help it out a little.

The lunges killed me the first few workouts also. The directions for the first month are to do 12 to 15 reps, so I would suggest lowering the weight a little bit so that your can hit at least 12/12/12.

I dropped the weights to 20 and did 15/12/12. Felt MUCH better. I can feel it sort of, but I can also walk today.
So far I'm loving this workout. The first triad kills me, has me sort of feeling pukey, the rest of it is ok. I adjusted some of the weights today so I'm not overdoing it.

The exact "pukey" feeling you describe is why it always cracks me when someone looks at HGM and wants add workouts before they do the first 2 weeks.

I think doing that 3x/week would overdo it. I don't feel like I did the other day but my quads are feeling it a bit less. It's a nice workout, I've been enjoying not having to go into the gym every day - sleeping in is sort of cool.

I'm almost done with Phase 3 myself, and trust me, you'll be happy with the program. I've done Phase 1 a couple times in the past, before slacking into long lazy streaks (yeah, college), but Phase 1 always gets me back on the right track quickly. As to how much you do it, that's your decision, but keep in mind that as your body adjusts to this kind of workload, you won't be feeling like jelly for days after each workout, and that alone should be motivating because it means your body is adapting and growing accordingly.

I just finished 5, 6 is kind of like 1- yeah miserable. But in all the misery, I LOVE this program. I think most people who have done it recommend it. Stick with it - you won't be sorry.
Good luck
Peter
