Wow it's been such a long time since ive posted here, but im back and ready for some more great input from the members of this forum.
Well with school- finals, homework, sports, extracurricular activities and everything ive been pretty busy, so i havent been able to go to the gym alot, but now that summer is here i have absolutely nothing to do so instead of wasting this summer like i have before- in my house and playing video games or something, im going to be spending alot of time at the gym, its gonna be like my second home
At my gym i can play basketball, play tennis, play soccer, play racquetball, swim, and of course workout (strength training and cardio).
The things that i want to incorporate into my daily routine are basketball, either tennis or soccer or both and working out, both lifting and running.
I have no clue in what order i should do these though, i was thinking i could run before i went to the gym (around 9), then eat breakfast, then go to the gym, play basketball, lift weights, play some more basketball, eat, then possibly play tennis or soccer then more basketball and then leave.
I guess it must be a wierd question to ask in what order i should do these, but i remember reading an article that said that if trying to cut (which i am) you should run in the morning on the days you dont lift and run after your strength training on lifting days.
Sorry for my long post if you actually took the time to read, any input?

lol, that was your 2nd post. Anyway, are you in a frat?
What are your stats?
what does your diet look like?
If you are trying to cut, you might want to try a cirtut full body routine.

yea, definately dont' run before weight training.
Seems to me like you're trying to load a lot on your plate, but you'll still be indoors the whole time, no? Why not train 3-4 hours a week, and then do some fun outdoor stuff? Get some of your boys together to play b-ball in an outdoor court, go trail running... hell, hit the beach and just sit on your ass for a while! it's summer - live it up, dude!

"yea, definately dont' run before weight training."
Why? I don't know myself. But my trainer said to do a 15 min warmup via running to the gym. I dont do it anyways, but am curious why its bad.
Cheers

I just think it's important not to tire yourself out before weight training. You should be able to give weight training your all. Worry about cardio, later...
I don't think 5-15 minutes of warmup time would be bad, though.

Cardio warmups are a long standing myth of weight training. The blood flow you get from a cardio warmup does NOTHING to prepare you for lifting heavy weights. An excercise specific warmup with low reps and increasing higher percentages of your working weight will give you both the blood flow you'd get from a cardio warmup and the CNS preparation you need to lift heavy.
Like Lost Dog said, its very important not to prefatigue yourself before lifting, and I'm pretty sure what Sierra was talking about wasn't a warmup, but a full out running session. Quite different.

Recent studies have shown (and I think Lou Shuler did a short piece on this once) that for fat loss you get a greater calorie burn doing cardio after weight training, if you must do both in the same workout. I prefer to do any cardio activity as a separate activity from my lifting routine and usually on a non-lifting day.
The important thing here is not to overload. Build habits that might stay with you after the summer is over. If you make it a pain and have no fun with it, you will want to quit.

ok so i want to get in some sort of long distance running at least like 5 times a week now, so according to Mahler i should do that after lifting, which also means i should be doing all my other activities after the lifting and the running.
And according to sharkbait I should warm up by doing an exercise specific warmup with low reps and increasing higher percentages of my working weight and possibly a little bit of cardio.
thanks to everyone ^ for posting - oh and yeah that was my second post but i did have another name that i posted on in this forum but i forgot the password on it so i made this one.
ok now for my next question, i've just been configuring my own workouts and doing like a 3 day split with chest and tri's on one day, back biceps and shoulders on another and legs on the last one. Now i think im ready to start a routine that is very good for cutting/ slimming down and definition while maintaining/ maybe adding bulk (very hard to do right?) i was thinking of that martial arts book that i read about a while back that was written by someone who posted here.. or that one book everyone always used to talk about... sorry i cant be more informative but maybe you guys can help out?

For cutting, check out Turbulence Training for Fat Loss or Ripped, Rugged, and Dense. Those are 2 cutting programs that i can think of off the top of my head. Check out the workout thread in the Fitness FAQ section for both. You can also head over to the training log section and check out other people's logs about the two programs. I know a lot of people (i believe keith, kaiser, cappy, and more) are using TT to get in better shape. Good luck with your summer program. Props to you for wanting to get in better shape.

Ive always had trouble on choosing a planned out workout . I can never decide which would be best and i always thought that one would get me better results or faster results and that i would be wasting my time by doing one that wasnt as good as another, but i think its true that many workouts are good and many can end in nice results. But im still having a hard time choosing a workout that is good for cutting, i was thinking i could do a 5+ day routine but turbulence training is 3 days and the RRD program doesnt seem popular.
I found the routine that i was talking about- HGM-home grown muscle, but i thought it was a book but when i searched for it on menshealth all that shows up is a poster series-
http://shop.menshealth.com/webapp/wc...4185&langId=-1
is that correct? and what do you guys think of this book?
Also, I found this book around my house called The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, I've read through the quick start and the book seems pretty good; have any of you guys heard of it? I like having good feedback on something before i start it.

Trust me, a 3 day a week lifting program will be enough. a 5+ day routine will most likely mean that you're overtraining. When you start doing a program, you'll see that 3 days a week will be enough. It's good to get good feedback, but don't be too picky. i've researched stuff in the past and wasted time tryign to figure out everything about it-time that i could have spent actually doing the program. so-good job figuring out all you can about a program-just don't let it get in the way of you actually doing the program. TT works-people here and other places have used it and have gotten great results.
As for HGM, i have all the files for it on my computer. It used to be free but then MH updated its site and now you have to pay for it. Mahler sent a few of us copies of it. So, if you are interested in HGM, PM me your email address and i can forward you the files on it.
