If not, here's the URL: http://www.t-mag.com/nation_articles/270deep.jsp

If yes, what did you think? I've been going deeper lately just for the greater ROM. I got to where I like it, too, so I guess that keeps me doing it.

By the way, I do front squats. I got started doing them that way and have just kept it up. I guess because I'm relatively tall (6'3") I was taught to use the heel block for balance (?). Again, I've kept doing it "just because." Also, there's a great drawing of a guy doing them with the block in _Strength_Training_Anatomy_ so I figured it can't be all bad.

I noticed that King doesn't think it's a good idea, however. Lately, I've noticed that I'm more comfortable and more balanced when I don't use the block, which was surprising.

Anyway, would love to hear what others think about the need to go deep and other squat-related stuff.

Q,

I liked it. It's a great exception to the rule about stretching before. Different goal (technique correction) than strength or force production. I also liked his application of soft-tissue mobilization to increase extensibility of the tibialis anterior.

So, Bill, what do you think about his comment about weaning off the heel block? Does doing front squats make any difference? I think I have the flexibility to stop based on my trials w/o it so I would guess you'll say drop it.

Soft tissue mobilization? Sitting on your feet?

If you don't need the block...lose it.

The STM I was talking about was the use of the knuckles in the tibialis anterior. It can have a temporary effect on "length" of the muscle.
