Can you post that suggested routine for someone around 14 years old? I know you have a lot going on, but you had mentioned it in the post by LoadedFreak666, and my brother, also 14, wants to start lifting.
He's plays baseball, track, is going to wrestle and wants to be a kicker for football next year. I need a routine that's age appropriate, and hopefully will give him an edge in sports as well.
Suggestions from others is welcome as well, though i'd really like to hear from you, JP. Thanks all!

Put him on HGM. Use lighter weights at first so he gets used to it but it's fine to go heavy(er) after a few weeks, just make sure he uses good form. I'm 14 too btw.

the thing about HGM though, is that it uses a lot of overhead lifts (overhead squats, shoulder presses, etc). Of all the studies i read that showed that weight lifting DOESN'T damage growth plates, they did say that overhead lifting for adolecence is strongly discouraged as it may be dangerous.
I will look into it though

Hey Sharkbait
I posted in the other forum about a question you.
What part of Rhode Island are you from??? The reason i am asking is beacuse i am an Athletic Development Specialist in Southeastern CT right on the RI border. I train athletes of all ages but mostly younger athletes. And i understand that you have had some difficulty with your parents understanding and letting your brother train. That is a difficult situation but at least you are trying to help your brother out which is great. If you have any questions contact me.
P.S. If you can or your parents can GET the Brian Grasso materials i.e.. Knowledge is Power program or at least the functional training DVD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Hey Jeff,
Sorry i missed your last post!
I live in Cranston during winter and summer breaks, and Kingston at URI during the school year. Thanks for your reply. Any idea where I can obtain those Brian Grasso materials you mentioned? Sounds like it might work.
Thanks again Jeff, and have a great day!

I would do exercises that develop speed/flexibility, like power cleans, squats, jump squats, lunges, bench press, chin ups, one arm rows, and dips. I would do them with impeccable form. Have someone check you for that. at your age, I would avoid over-specializing in your training. Give your body a few more years. Just make sure that the exercises you do use, you execute them like a swiss clock.

I used to love Roger William's Park on nice days (lived within walking distance for a couple of years).

Try his site. You can purchase his book, and his DVD from there.

I seem to recall Craig Ballantyne ( www.cbathletics.com) had some good stuff for younger athletes as well. It might be worth it to pop over there and look through his archives.
