As you all know it is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but when I get up in the morning I am not hungry. I have tried eating a piece of fruit or even a whey shake but I am really not hungry but as soon as I am 15 or 20 min into my workout I am hungry. First, is this normal? Second, what can I drink or eat that won't make me sick or cramp up while working out. I have tried keeping a piece of fruit in my bag just in case but just looking at it has no appeal at all.

Eating is much like sleeping in that you can train yourself to feel the need at certain times. It may just be a matter of habit. Eat a half piece of fruit for a few days. If that becomes easy enough, move up to a whole piece, etc.

There is a lot of support for promoting pre-workout nutrition. But maybe some guys on here that get up really early can toss in their 2 cents about what they eat (or don't eat).

I know this may sounds blunt but just force it down. You have to have something in your system before working out...exspecially in the morning. I would suggest liquid if you are really struggling to eat something.

Start with something tasty to start the habit, and work over time to something healthy.

Think liquid at first as it digest easier.

Myself, I have a Muscle Milk shake and a yogurt.

I used to be just like you. I could go hours before eating anything and never feel hungry. However, since I started HGM program and eating more smaller meals vs fewer larger meals I wake up starving. I must eat something the minute I wake up, that's how hungry I am.

Also, through trial and error (by accident) I have come to realize that it is very important that you eat something before your workout. I can push myself harder and feel stronger when I work out on a full stomach. Of course post-workout meal is also very important.

How do you feel about eggs? Try an omlet in the morning. What foods do you like to eat? Just because it is morning time doesn't mean you can't have chicken sandwich or something else untraditional.

Just my 2 cents.

Every morning I have a shake for breakfast. I throw a banana, some peanut butter, oatmeal, blueberries/raspberries/strawb erries, yogurt, milk, protein powder, and ice in a blender. Just a couple seconds and you have breakfast that will last you a good while into your day. And I have never had it upset my stomach while working out. I just had to piss.

How much earlier do you guys have to wake up prior workout if you're going to eat something?

I've tried to wake up early, have a simple breakfast(bagle, protein shake, yogurt, maybe some oatmeal), but then I have to wait a while before working out.

So by then time I factor all those things in, I'd have to wake up like 2 hours before a workout(and most of the time I just can't drag my sleepyself out of bed that early)

I usually can go workout within 15 minutes of eating. I just drink my shake, use the bathroom, and go hit it.
