How effective is eccentric training for 1) bodybuilding and 2) sports performance. Is there a proper count to use when moving the weight through the concentric and eccentric portions of a lift. I personally use the 2 count for the concentric and a brief pause followed by a 4 count for the eccentric portion.

Im sorry i cant help you but maybe this bump will help it to get noticed by someone who can.

But I have a question for you. What are "eccentrics and concentrics"? I dont think I have ever heard this term before or If I have, not applied to weight training before. If it is something to do with weight training.

I must sound dumb but I guess its the best way to learn lol. -Seth

Eccentric - lowering portion - yielding
Concentric - Lifting portion - overcoming

I don't count tempo. I highly doubt that your body will notice much difference between a 3 second count and a 4 second count. I lower under control and lift as explosivly as possible. A while back there was a thread about tempo that was just bumped recently. You should check it out this was covered pretty well.
