Post

Hi everyone,

I'm new to weight training, and to this site - I was going to post on MH, but it looks like everyone who was there is now here.

I have a few questions, so I'll do some seperate posts - forgive me for hogging the board for a moment!

My 1st question...
For years and years, I've been quite chubby, and now I've finally got rid of most of the fat, through cardio. My main problem had always been man-breasts. They were never that bad, but still, annoying, huh?

Now that I'm starting to get into weight training, I want to work on my chest, but in a specific way. I'm worried about ending up with big old man-breasts again, but made out of muscle instead of fat! (Although I know it would still look better).

I have read some posts suggesting that different parts of the pecs cannot be exercised individually. Can "pecs" be interchanged with "chest" in this statement, or are there ways of aiming for a particular chest-shape??

What I want to aim for is the double-square look, i.e. each side of the chest is defined at the inner and bottom edge, and are flatish. I'm not at all fussed about overall size - anywhere from fairly small to fairly large will do fine! What I don't want is to end up with big, anonymous-shaped muscles sitting on my ribcage.

SO.... Is it possible for me to aim for this? If so, what exercises should I do to get this square shape?

I guess this might be a contentious issue, and I'm prepared to give something a go only to find it doesn't work, but I might as well try it!

Thanks for any help everyone!

first of "pecs" can be interchanged w/ chest. or at least i'd like to think so. since the chest muscle is known as pectoralis major in the science community.

start doing benches and dips to really work your chest. also do rows and pullups for your back. b/c if all you do is chest workout...and no back workout, then you will have a serious imbalance.

Question

Thanks for the advice, but can I just clarify - will that help me get the SHAPE I'm after, or will I risk ending up with big pecs of what ever shape they want to be?

They will be what shape most pecs in the world are. They won't look like a fatty man breast if thats what you are worried about. Find someone with well developed pecs that you wouldn't like and I would be suprised.
