Good to see you stop by and explain your vision of the challenge Marty. Not sure how much you will come by, but it's a good bunch, even if not all of us are kettlebell nuts.
Good to see everyone jumping on board, stop by the facebook page if you are on FB!
All a 10 minute format. 1 set of 10 left and 1 set of 10 right per minute
Day 1: 200 swings
Day 2: 200 swings
Day 3: 200 swings

I'm signing up for this one, too. Gotta make good use of my KB's, and maybe I'll even improve my form on the one-handed swings. I'll be starting this challenge tomorrow, and do them whenever I can on a daily basis.
Considering that many on the thread aren't very experienced with swings, I highly suggest that if you miss a day you not try to double the swings the next day. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you miss, then IMO just let it go.
Starting out with a 1-5 ladder might get people into the swing of things when you don't feel like working out. This morning I laddered up 1-10 and then back down so 1-10-1 which is 200 total. Nice quick way to get the work done.

I agree with Dave. It also encourages people who find this thread today or next week to jump on in. If they feel that they need to catch up, they will just pass.
I'd like to join. I've been getting back into swings and glute activation for the past few days. How does it work - do we just check in after doing our daily 200?

Yes this does make sense. It is the same as anything else though. Don't over do something you are new to.
If you have been playing with bells for awhile as some of us have at various levels I think making up a missing day is cool.
Nothing is saying we can't bust out the current days with whatever bell size we are usually using and then dropping down a size for the make-ups.
As for reporting: it is pretty much all honor system, we don't have to video each day. If you want to post I would say you have three options:
1) The facebook event page
2) Here in this thread
3) on your trainining log if you have one
4) On Twitter
Wait that's 4. Oh well. I currently am reporting on all three, although less regularly on this thread.
Thoughts so far: 3 days in. gah. Gonna be a long month.

is not so bad. although, last night being the culmination of quite a few days operating on 4 or less hours of sleep, saw me only doing 120 before bed, and only with the 10#. But still, is not so bad, from someone who has made sitting on ass in front of computer her life for the last … while. but I'll just keep posted in my tumble log and log here… neither of which has seen any action of late
Marty, I like what you added on your FB page. If you come in late, just make it a 31 day challenge. No need to "make up" days, just keep going for 31. Nice touch.

good work and good choice. Sleep and health trumps all!
Did 300 yesterday (making up 100/day since I started on day 3). Not bad for a density-type of day. I'll need to play with the set/rep/weight scheme so I can do other stuff around it.

I attempted to do 100 swings before I left for work this morning, and managed to get in all of 4. My cat decided to start attacking my ankles, and wouldn't let go until I played fetch with him. Tonight I'll do 100 swings with the 20 lb. KB to ease into the challenge.
I'm just curious, what exactly are the benefits of this exercise? It looks as if it would work the posterior chain similar to RDLs, and the high reps would also give you a good endurance and calorie-burning workout. I can't think of any sports or real-world activities that require that kind of movement, though (although picking up my 2-year old is a little like that).

I'd be doing swings with the cat by then.

This move isn't training a specific sports skill/move. It is training the hip hinge and posterior chain as you stated. This is something used in most aspects of life and sport to some degree. Traditionally I would say this is a power-endurance move which is a bit of a stretch for both terms but seems to work.

We used to have this Pit Bull named Sam. Awesome dog, but he did hate cats.
One of the cats used to lay in the old tire swing hanging off the orange tree and Sam would get underneath and start growling and barking and scare the poor thing to death. Sam would jump and grab hold and the tire and just hang there (like Pits do).
The cat would literally run around the inside of the tire, round and round. This would go on until we went outside and pulled Sam off the tire.
All the while the cat running and screaming.
This made me think back to that.
**sorry cat-people**

Good grief, that's inviting trouble at my house! My cat is an attack cat, seriously, lol. He's lunged at people before, so I can imagine that if I attempted to do swings with him, he'd launch right towards my face.
I did 200 yesterday with a 20# hex dumbbell; 40 double, 40 Right, 40 left, 40 double x2.
After the first set it got tough after about #25.
Got some DOMS going on--we'll see how we feel about consecutive days later on today. I may skip a day and then pick it back up, since that may be enough recovery to enable me to do it every day.
I will be able to play with Roland's kettlebells on Sunday, so I may be getting a genu-wine KB next week.
