Although this is my first post (and might be my last) I check the jpfitness forums everyday for a few reasons. first of all, I am a fitness professional looking to enhance my knowledge base (you never know when someone is going to say something you didn''t know), next, I try to pass some time while at work on a employers computer and lastly, this board is respectful.
However, I have been following the recent posts on this board and quite frankly find it to be increasingly insipid and assynine. the quality of information is being smoked screened by name calling and pompous juvenile displays of emotion. I really hope you can do something about this. this past week I have not learned a whole lot except about the nutritional post about nutrient timing that was great stuff. Other than that it's slowly decaying. The seasoned posters treatment of newbies, for the most part, is completely uncalled for. You would think we could become stronger with numbers, not ridicule and run people off. Everyone and I mean everyone can contribute to your knowlege base somehow. or perhaps maybe I don't understand this cultish attitude. I will not stop checking this site, but I really hope some change is in order. Hell, I might even start posting. good luck to yall
Can you name any specific posts where you saw this?

The only time "newbies" have been attacked (that i've seen anyways) is when THEY were making asenine comments (not the other way around).
Actually, i've seen more new people being unreasonable hostile, if anything.
Regardless, why don't you give something back to the forum that you've just praised. Instead of standing on the sidelines, only jumping in to complain about how things aren't up to your standards, how about getting involved in some threads?
As Ghandi says, "you must BE the change you wish to see in the world." You're PT? You must have some useful info to impart!

do you want to say if you happen to be logged on under another signon name here? Just curious. We do take the stuff that happens here seriously, and unlike MH, move pretty quickly when we make a decision.
Like I've said before, I respect everyone on the board, and gladly will help them, make suggestions, etc. However, when the line is crossed, whether it be a newbie or someone else, that attacks the knowledge of someone, we do not tolerate it. You give respect, you get respect. It's a simple as that.
I am in the same boat as Kaiser. I find it eerie that this was addressed today and in someone's first post.

Jules,
I am a newbie here and have received nothing but helpful information and respect. I've seen other newbies come and receive the same treatment.
Here is something for you to ponder: if a person is disrespectful to me and other weightlifters in general, why should I respect him?

I am assuming that this thread is in response to the curling thread.
I would be the first to admit that it was an immature and ridiculous thread (especially towards the end). There are many, many well thought out and informative/positive threads on here daily.
That being said I think it was pretty well contained to the one thread and even then didn't turn sour until until two guys that just started hanging around kind of stuck their feet in their mouths.
Anyway, this is a great site and if you have hung out here for a while you know the general support and knowledge that flows pretty freely around here. I hope you stick around.

Welcome Jules. Don't let a bad week in jpfitness-land wreck your experience. There are eruptions every now and then, but I think the consistent pattern is one of respect. I am bummed that it took a negative experience for you to decide to participate, but at least we got you to finally join us. I am glad that you value this place enough as a resource to say something though. I do look forward to your future posts.
Incidentally, I closed that "curls in the squat rack" thread since things started going South. Some sites have a "flame pit" to steer arguments off the main sub forums, but I don't particularly want that kind of negativity in here at all because it would effect the entire forum.

Think of us as one big happy family. Sure, we're odd, disfunctional and prone to occasional bickering. Newbies? Their kind of like in-laws. They're moving into the family, and so they become family. But, as an in-law, especially a new one, you want to be sure you don't pee in the Cheerios of the family patriarch--it's common courtesy AND common sense.
That having been said, we really do love each other....even Tony.
I agree with most of these guys, yes there is some bullshit posts going on but honestly most of us can handle a little ball busting, however the one thing I do not like is some people feel that thier info in the only info, I am very opened minded and am willing to listen to damn near anything that someone has to say, I find what works for me and don't bust on the other info. Sometimes there is a pack like mentality when you disagree with people, I have gained some good knowledge on here and will continue to ask for advise, All in all I think it is a good place.
I am as guilty as anyone of getting in "tiffs" with members here... but only in the off-topic forums, and even then only with guys that have been here a while. I think that's a whole other ballgame.
I didn't see the curls thread... but I'd say 90% of training and nutrition threads are BS free.
hahahhahah that was hilarious ninjabookey. after hearing the bad news i just did, i really needed that laugh.

i remember those big pink cocoon looking things they would stick straws in and suck red liquid out with....wasnt that supposed to be blood or something...classic movie. *clears throat, making this fitness related* and uh, blood isnt nutritious to drink it could be infested with parasites.
