As I (sadly) watched my Jayhawks get penetrated on time and time again last night, I kept noticing that they have slow lateral quickness and slow backsteps (not sure of the official term for that). It's part of the reason anybody remotely athletic can get around and drive on them.
They have 3 weeks left before the NCAA tournament starts. How much could a S&C coach improve lateral quickness/backstep quickness in 3 weeks if it was the specific focus? What exercises and drills would you do to improve it?
Hurdle work. I couldn't believe how much it helped me after my knee injury. I went from moving foward, back, and laterlly from way slower then my teammates to not far behind them in a short period of time.
zlightning: could you elaborate on what specific hurdle work you did? i'm interested in what exercises you did as i'm looking to improve my lateral, backstep, etc. quickness. thanks
