We (so far, 'we' includes Elisabeth (Fang), Chris (kuri), and me) are going to be putting together a casual fitness event/family picnic for those of you who live in Southern California.
It's going to be a great event for people of ALL fitness levels, from casual to serious, enthusiast to athlete, and from hobbyist to fitness professional. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to come!
In addition to those of you who have a strong interest in fitness, we want to encourage you to bring your family and friends. So, we are going to pick a park with good "park things" to do! We're looking at parks with access to fishing, playgrounds, etc. that are readily available. It's going to be a beautiful Southern California park, so frisbee, catch, and even sitting in the shade reading or just taking a nap are all good options.
Activities
Planned activities include a beginner kettlebell workshop, plus a bootcamp-style training session that will include kettlebells, bodyweight exercises, a sled, sandbag, and more.
Unplanned activities will include discussions on diet, nutrition, healthy cooking, program design, home workouts, bodyweight training, kettlebells, and more.
Details (or lack of, at this point)
When -- With any luck, a Saturday or Sunday in the next few weeks.
Location -- TBD. A park or recreation area with fishing, playground, picnic areas, etc. for family fun.
Food and drink -- potlock and/or bbq, grilling, etc.
Cost -- The goal is for the event to be free, with the possible exception of parking, park entry fee, food, and drink.
What's next?
Post here if you're interested in attending and/or have ideas on how to make this event a great one! Feel free to PM or email (rdenzel@gmail.com) me with ideas, as well.
After gauging some interest, I'll compile the ideas, we'll pick a date, a time, and a venue. Then, we get together!
I hate you. Seriously though, it sounds AWESOME! Wish I was closer.
Og.

You forgot to mention the part about scaling the 60 foot rock face to reach the picnic area.
Nothing better than lifting things followed by serious eating!

I'm definitely interested...November 8 would be perfect for me. I have a 20 mile wine and beer tasting bike ride on November 7, at which I am volunteering as well as participating. Anyone want to come to the desert on the 7th and join me? LOL. Seriously! But the picnic thing sounds really cool and I'm definitely in...well, if you do it on Nov. 8.
I don't think we can make that Saturday. Will be just getting back to the U.S.
Sunday should work though.

Do we have any more details? I'm pretty sure I'm on the schedule to work on the 8th, but if not I will probably try to make it, depending on where it is.
Well, we have a couple of people from the South Bay, one from the Pasadena area, a couple from Santa Monico, some from Westlake Village area, and then some from OC.
Hmm...being not from CA, and living here not so long, I have no idea where any of those places are, other than Santa Monica (I assume you meant that, not Monico), and OC.
South Bay? Um, not SF bay I hope you don't mean?
Edit: ok, I looked at Google, and I guess S. Bay isn't SF. Still not sure where it is.

Torrance, Palos Verdes, El Segundo, Redondo and Manhattan Beach!
We think somewhere with a beach would be good - being as it IS so cal afterall.
There is a chance we could get access to a private beach on Point Dume. It'd be further for most of you but a damn nice spot. Just an idea, we'll see.

Football is taking away my entire life for the next many months. BUT my daughter lives down there and is studying to take her ACE exam. I think she'd be highly interested. Roland can you babysit for me if she goes?

She's more than welcome! I think Fang knows her, right?
