Default IT band stretches

I want to get back into a running/jogging routine, but can already feel that my IT band is tight and would leave me in a world of pain after a few miles.

What is the best way to correct this problem? I have a foam roller, FWIW.

You can do a classic TFL/ ITB stretch for 2-3 sets of 30' or foam roll or both. Make sure you do those daily and also make sure you have someone evaluate your walking and running technique to make sure all the muscles are in line and functioning properly. Being in Indy, you can even go to IFAST and consult Mike or Bill.

Sorry this is a little OT, but should you stretch before, after, or both when running/cycling?

It depends. After if we know nothing else about the person, like it is here.

Before when we know something need stretched before. Here is when good assessment comes in.

Bill Harman used to post here a ton. They have hands down the best facility in the Indianapolis area and can help you out. Go check out the gym and get a free assessment.

Thanks, guys. I'll give Bill a call. Should I go get a new pair of running shows before or after the assessment?
