Default Steve Cotter on Training and Well Being

Mike Mahler just did a great podcast with Steve Cotter.

Some great topics of discussion including but not limited to kettlebells. They touch upon deeper levels of training for well being rather just getting fit or burning calories.

I can testify that it's quite gratifying to see someone who comes in the gym initially to get bigger arms or drop some weight that ends up moving as good or better than they did as a teenager, and improving self confidence or other qualities that carry over into other aspects of their life.

Cotter is on a good path.

His very first response sent waves of nostalgia through me. It could be my response to anyone asking about my background (the martial arts part).

More than anything else it is my use of martial arts conditioning that has me moving the way I do at 54. The mind and spirit follows.

Gratifying? You bet.

Thanks for the link.

I'm going to check out the podcast later on, but I think Steve Cotter's great, and I have a lot of respect for him. I've followed some of his instructional clips to improve my kettlebell form, which is still crappy, but not as crappy as it was before. Thanks for posting the link here.

Good stuff. I've never heard the mental benefits of training described so well. And they spent 20 minutes on it. I also appreciated the details on his trip to Russia because that was clearly a pivotal experience for him. For training, his saying to simply do a push, a pull, and a squat six days a week was educative. Looking at his old workout logs on IGX showed that kind of simplicity in programming and how the KB training is a bit different.

His comment on the TGU being emphasized to sell DVDs brought a smile. I'm sure some might say the same thing about Steve's pistol DVD but each of those had value for me so I think we all benefit, if you're into those movements enough to buy a DVD on one movement.

For further insights from Steve, I highly recommend this clip and the second one in this series:

Lots of good training details there. Thanks for bringing the podcast to my attention.

I've worked with Steve and he's a great guy.

He has this relaxed calm about him and proves that success in life whether it's business, training or anything else comes from taking time out from the intensity of it all to realise what you really want in life. Once you can do this, the rest kind of takes care of itself.

I interviewed him on some of this but not allowed to post external links yet as I'm new here! If you want to check it out just google 'jon le tocq interview with Steve Cotter' - it's on YouTube.

One unfortunate thing is that I feel people get sold on Steve;s amazing physical abilities, which being realistic, most of us will never get close to unless we can return to being 4 years old again and start over!
