Default Dive Bomber Weakness

Would someone be so kind as to help me find/learn the physiology behind the inability or weakness related to the reverse portion of the divebomber push up? Where going into the lowering arc is sort of maybe okay but coming back through the same arc requires a 2 rep max effort.

Obviously doing the exercise is the best way to improve it, but I would really like to understand what is going on physiologically.

Thanks so much.

I can't answer your question, but I will relay my experience as I eat my lunch. I participate in motocross, a sport in which shoulder injuries are common. If I am nursing any kind of shoulder injury, I have trouble with the same portion of the movement that you describe (due to weakness or guarding). I have had success switching to Hindu (Judo) pushups in which the eccentric movement remains the same, but the painful concentric movement is eliminated, inchworms (walking the hands to the feet from an outstretched position mimicks the problem movement), and assisted hand stand pushups until the shoulder strength returns. Good luck finding your answer.
