Exercise/ Swiss balls, that is... I know they aren't all the same. I just couldn't resist using that as a thread title.
I have an everlast one that I got for $10 at TJMaxx or someplace like that, and as cute as it is, I think it's crap. Great for a bouncy computer chair, but it doesn't hold air well enough for exercising. From what I can see I am going to end up spending around $50 for a good, leakproof, puncture resistant one. I see there are several, and the consumer reviews of the ones I have looked at are all mixed.
I want to get a good one, because I will not be able to afford to turn around and buy another next year. I am getting divorced and sense unprecendented (to me, anyway) levels of debt in my future. I want to invest in a few necessities that will last, and will prevent me from having to join a health club to use thier equipment, at least until I get back on my feet.
So, my questions...
Any recomendations? And why would you recommend whatever it is you are recommending?
I think I am goign to start a similar thread about weight benches, too. I will be looking for one of those soon.
I thought you meant mens balls by the name of the title lol. I was about to say..are you seriously asking that question on a public board with girls reading as well? lol
oh the other hand...
for a good ball, go to performbetter.com
*shrug* Everything needs refilling now and then… the one we bought at walmart is just as good as the one we bought at Dicks. (dicks and balls have now been covered in this thread, you're welcome). Do make sure you get one that's the right size, and don't poke it, but otherwise I can't say I've spent $50 on all three of ours combined, and they're all good.
My smaller ball has an opti-ball logo on it - the larger (blue) ball doesn't have a brand on it. They both seem to hold air pretty well. They've lasted a long time but they get pretty erratic use.

lol
And this one... I inflate it, and the next day it's not firm. Fun to bounce on, but not firm.
I love firm balls....hate it when they get squishy. My cheapo from wal-mart is always firm....refill it every now and then. The balls at the gym, which I am assuming are much more expensive. Now, they get used a lot, but they are always squishy. I hate it when I sink into a ball, don't you.
Bouncing, poking, rolling... ladies, you need to ease into things before unleasing this kind of carnage on the balls. In the heat of the workout it's fine, but there has to be a buildup. You can't just jump in there and start pounding them.
No wonder they're deflating.

I ordered an anti-burst one from thera-gear. The one I have now is my third, and the first two didn't get a lot of use and they seemed to get squishy pretty fast. This one seems to have this certain level of squishiness that it reverts to no matter how much air I put in it, howmuch I use it, etc. I will probably keep it around because it's big and pink and nice for a computer chair, but not so great for exercising on.
And I want to add that IT'S SO NICE TO BE BACK TO EXERCISING. I don't particularly enjoy the exercise itself, but I appreciate feeling like, yes, I do have muscles under there somewhere, and I love progress!
Sometimes cheap balls can rupture and explode. Don't get that kind.
And as embarrasing as an unexpected explosion can be in the privacy of your own home it could be really bad at a gym. Now if they only made a protective covering one could use so you could avoid such a problem.

"No bro zone"
I like it. My college age sons play an obnoxious word game where that would be called a "brohibition".
I think the size of your balls matters. My gym has a variety of sizes and certain exercises just don't feel right on them. My one at home is the perfect size, but I don't use it as much now that I'm married.
