A new to the area client approached me today with an interesting question. how do I find a workout partner?
here was my advice
-go to the gym at the same time everyday.
-you will start to see a common group of people.
-be social and communicate with these people
-eventually ask someone who you believe has similar goals.

does anyone else have any other ideas or advise. also, is it unethical for a trainer to set up workout partners for other people?

Why would it be unethical? I would assume that it would be a considerate service.

i wish I had a WO partner. My schedule fluctuates too much though to have one. I think it would help my goals a lot. Too bad. Anyway, maybe get some people you know outside of the weightroom to go with you. It will get them into the sport and you will have them with you, training. Since it was a new client to the area, that probably wouldnt work, but for other instances it could

If these clients have the same goals and similar situations (i.e. both obese and want to lose weight) then they could be supportive with each if their schedules allow it. If you have someone interested, Id ask your remaining clients to see if theyd be interested in a workout partner. Perhaps you can ask another trainer if they have a client that meets this criteria.

Why not ask your gym manager if you can start a 'Looking for a workout partner' post board in the gym? The members could list days and times, goals, etc. Probably a good PR move, too!

Maybe not, but at least you could get into the squat rack in between your partner's bicep curls!
