Saturday is February 19, my 40th b-day, and the deadline for my short-term goals. But I do not work out again until Monday so this morning (Friday the 18th) was my last chance. So this is how things worked-out (pardon the pun).
Basically as far as reaching goals it did not go well. But that is only half of the story as the goals were just motivators, and I do not feel badly about missing them because there has been a big improvement.
•Bench my body weight: 1 rep max – 71 KG
Missed it – did 60 KG (but this was done after the phase 2 upper body workout- 1RM is not really a priority so I am not warming up to do it on another day, just trying when I have a chance after the workout.
•Squat my body weight (8 x 3) 71 KG
Missed it, but this morning I did
-20 kg x 8 warm up,
-40 kg x 8,
-50 kg x 8,
-60 kg x 6 (form got bad on number 6)
Then 40 x 8 to make up for the 2 unfinished reps
•Deadlift my body weight (8 x 3) 71 KG
Missed it
I did 58KG x 8 x 3
Generally I am happy because these goals are just around the corner…
Oh yeah I forgot
•pull-ups (8 x 2)
did body weight x 8
body weight x 3
body weight x 2
and that was it- no gas.
I think this was adversely affected by training at home (no pull down cable machine/ no bar), but I got a call today from UPS, my squat cage w/bar is here!! So watch out!!
BUT the best for last
•dips (8 x 3)
I do have a dip station, so I managed 8 x 3 last week. So yesterday, remembering what Rev wrote about strapping on some weights (though I think he was talking about chin-ups), I did 8 x 3, the tried a 4 ½ KG dumbbell, 5 reps, it was awkward, so threw 5 kg in a backpack, did 5 reps, the 10 kg, 3 reps , 10 kg 3 reps, then I lay on the floor and cried for my mother. Yes, I was in pain, but I will remind you that I cried for my mother in a rather manly way.
The other big ticket item is that I finished HGM Phase 2 this morning!!
Anyway that is all the news that is fit to print for today.
Cheers
Peter

you've made great progress so far. it's tough to hit goals when you're doing an every changing routine like HGM. you came pretty close on most of them....keep up the good work.
Crying for your mommy is nothing to be ashamed of, I myself have been through it several times, mommy never came though ;[
Anyway good job on the gains!

And here I thought they called it "imperial" measurements 'cause it originated in England ...

Peter, good work on your goals. It's good to set tough goals for yourself and to kepp working towards them. It looks like you're well on your way. And, btw, hope you have a great birthday. I expect, given the milestone, you'll be celebrating in style. Have fun!

btw jcwiseesq, all my weights are in Kilos, I usually put pounds in when I post, but I forgot. I am surprised though that people that work with olympic bars still use pounds since olympic bars and plates are in kilos (of course they convert to pounds but a 20 kilo plate seems easier math wise than a 44 pound plate. Although when I finally bench 90 kilos, I will post that one in pounds!! It sounds more impressive.
K-court, I think an interesting change has occurred in usage and I have come across the term American Weights and Measures more frequently. It was generally referred to as the Imperial System eventhough the American system differs slightly (gallon size, etc). And since the Imperial system is no longer in use (even in the Empire) the term American (for US System, US weights and measures, etc) has become more common.
Phitz, I got the plain squat rack (read cheapest abt ¥16,000 the HPS). Size and price, the next one up was ¥30,000 with a pulldown cable but I have used a cheap pull down set up before and it was not very good, so I thought that I might be wasting my money in getting a less than smooth pulley pull down. I would rather do pull ups and chin ups.
Thanks again for the encouragement.
Peter
