Default My Hairy Pooch!

Gotta love that title!

As I'm getting into lower body fat percentages (I didn't say low...I said lower) I've noticed something strange around my midsection. What I thought was a spare tire is actually muscle. It looks like my lower abs...I know, I know.....stick out. I'm still at around 14% body fat so it's not like I'm lean. But, I'm lean enough to see that what I thought was fat shouldn't be able to flex and get hard when I clinch up my stomach.

What is this an indication of. I thought that I had read that this would happen if you have an anterior pelvic tilt. But, according to a PT I saw in February, I have a neutral pelvis. I thought that I read somewhere that it could have to do with weakness of the psoas, but it was a throw away comment with no details.

Does anyone know why this might be, and what can be done to improve it?

I can't help you with the protuberance, but I can recommend some manscaping techniques to deal with the hair

Yes, we don't want any repeat incidents of Mon's pube post. Nor any more advice from her.

Sorry to bump this. But, I haven't been able to find any information anywhere else. Yet, I don't think that I imagined the info about the psoas, and pelvic tilt.

Anyone have any insight? Or do I just have to accept the fact that Men's Health won't be calling for a photo shoot anytime soon?

I always thought that one of the reasons was a postural one. The slouchy, rounded shoulder thing causes a very, very slight full time crunch which causes the abdominals to shape like that rather than a straight posture with the abdominals stretched up to assist in holding up your body.

Then again I have a lower structure very similar to what you see on those roman soldier body armour. Pronounced obliques on my sides, adonis belt and that round plate below my navel that you may or may not be referring to.

May be the result of a lot of rotational work? Martial arts work? Just a lot of lower body work?

Probably all the above.

It's not weakness of the psoas, but tightness. If you do a google search on stretching the psoas you'll find a lot of info. I have found some yoga poses work best. This website shows where the psoas are and some ways to stretch them:
http://www.bandhayoga.com/keys_psoas.html

I have scoliosis and some significant postural problems as a result, and my tight psoas make it even worse. Keeping them relatively loose helps my posture and helps relieve my chronic back pain.
