Plus in the league I am in, we are 5 girls and 5 guys, so whenever the girls are up, we always play shallow. None of us are ever standing around in the outfield. Also if we have too many girls one game and I sit 1 inning, I am always moving around and chearing everyone on. I don't just sit on the bench and wait. This is something you should think about when playing. It will also help you be in the right position to field the ball so you wont be in the wrong place.
wait, you stand still, right?

no I can never stay in one spot. while waiting for the pitch, I am always walking around and also turning my head back to look at the fence to see how far I am from it so that I wont bump into it catching a ball.

why dont you train in the gym functionally for basketball. Perform exercises that are going to improve your basketball playing. That way you will be able to play basketball for many more years down the road

Since nobody can define "functionally" that is useless.

And Chek is crazy as a loon.

You sound cranky -- probably not doing enough daily coffee enemas. Don't knock Chek's program until you've tried it for the low price of $1,200. Then you'll be poorer, yes, but you'll be spiritually serene and your poo will smell like the hills of Columbia.

Excusie me but Paul Chek is wicked spiritual even though I admit that he seems to be loving poop more then other people love poop.

Yes RL is right again. I've got my drip Columbian chocolate truffle here set to go. The sewer pipes will be smelling splendid and I'll save enough on not having to buy bathroom incense (spirituality should include the toilet right Charlie?) that I can afford a Chek seminar.

If you have been in the diet and nutrition forum about creatine, you would understand. (to sum it up, we discovered that creatine creates aggression)

Dangit Moon, I should have read your creatine thread earlier. Your true knowledges in that arena is something.

Do you think that's what is causing my violent acts at the gym? Sometimes when I miss a lift sometimes I smash stuff but don't know why. Is it bad to mix creatine with coke?

I dont know for sure because I have not taken it yet. I dont know if it causes aggression on everyone, but it seems like it from everyone that has replied on the diet & supplement forum that takes it or has taken it in the past. I was planning on trying it, but the things that are said in the diet & supplement forum changed my mind a bit about it. I am just letting you know what I heard from other members on this board, thats all. Wait til 1 of them reply in this thread and they will tell you more because they have taken it. Its a side effect

I wouldn't turn to potions and notions. Variety and recovery are the answers for all of us old athletes so give yourself some off seasons. You'll have enough left over to carry on for years to come. Recovery is job one.

I don't mean to shill for anyone but I have been following the methodology of Core Performance for about 3 years now and it really seems to help. It basically uses the concept of using multiple types of work : prehab, agility, elasticity, flexibility, strength and energy system.

At 54 I feel as though my joints have got quite a few miles in them

And besides, I've noticed a number of the more popular fitness pros who we all know and love have adopted the methodology that Mark Verstegan uses with his athletes.

It works for me as well.

If you are an "old guy" at 53. what the heck does that make me at 69? Geez!!

Stop the negative stuff and concentrate on the positive. I suggest you keep yourself in overall great shape, play basketball as a part of your physical fitness, but, as someone else suggested, if you feel you are pusing too hard on the BB bit, back off.

Heck, at 53, you are not going to set any BB records - so enjoy what you do.

And, there are a lot of other things you can do - my 50+ bicycle forum is filled with guys who lost their knees while running in their 40's. Now they love bicycling. I bicycle, swim, lift, walk, stretch, etc. It keeps me in shape.

I agree...what is in your life that makes you think 53 is old?

I'm 54 and I think it will be a good 15-20 years before I start complaining about my health, or start feeling old. I have lifted weights for 30 years, and off and on have had some very physically demanding jobs....the last for 3 years....and that was just 2 years ago.

I drink beer (daily), I love my hot dogs (nearly daily) and I have a stressful job (business owner with a bunch of employees and customers who drive me crazy..but I absolutely love to go to work every day).

Knee injuries or whatever are just injuries...not age-related problems.

I was voted most improved player in the '07-'08 season. '06-'07 must have been really shitty year for me.
