Default Step Up Box - How Should I Make It?

Hey folks,

Quick question - I'm planning on making a step up box this weekend and am wondering if there's a general accepted height that these boxes are. Right now I'm doing step ups on a flat bench (at the gym) or on two steps (at home).

I've seen some plans for some really nice looking boxes, but I'm basically going to be making a cube type box out of plywood. I can always make another base to add even more height to it in the future if need be. But for now I'm wondering how tall the initial box should be.

If you've made one before or if you use one at your gym, can you tell me how high it is?

Much thanks!
S.

I think it's based off how high you want it to be, a taller box is generally tougher, and more glute centric. Shorter box is easier, and quad centric.

How about a parallel thigh when your foot is up on the box?

That's what I was leaning towards. Thanks for the input.

I've seen some ingenious step-up boxes on other forums. I'd recommend considering using something on the top to make it non-skid. Depending on your workout area's floor, you might want to affix something to the bottom as well.
