Default Evaluate this exercise?

Would someone please take a moment and give this a try and evaluate it's effectiveness.

Using a smith machine turn your back to the bar which, for this evaluation is set to about chest height. Bend down, hands to floor, then raise one foot up and hook it on the bar followed by the other. Basically you are now in a push up position with the tops of your feet on the bar.

The placement of your feet on the bar creates a bit of an assist to the push ups (as opposed to having them up on a wall). This makes the exercise a good progression towards unassisted handstand push ups or as a stand alone model for vertical pushes. The bar height would change the difficulty level making these ideal for the older, weaker trainee or for someone wanting a different way to work that plane.

I'm thinking one can alternate these with inverted rows on the smith for a horizontal pull - vertical push combo.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I've used the hot water heater as an assist for HSPUs......this could work too.

Someone should tell Cressey. He can add an addendum to his 10 Good Uses For A Smith Machine article.

Finally, a logical use for the Smith Machine.

I will try that. thanks=) I need to get my SA a little stronger first on regular push ups before getting it a little bit harder. I am really focusing on using the right muscles instead of the overactive upper trapz
