Default ? about Lyle's Rest article

I came across this article http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/tra...e-of-rest.html

(probably good timing too, considering I'm trying to train smarter-ie: not overtrain)

According to this article, weight training 3-4 days a week, with 3-5 days of cardio is considered too much/more rest needed, etc.

What do you all think? I'm currently doing 4 days of weight training(upper/lower) and 5 days of low-moderate intensity cardio.
Too much? Would I benefit from just sticking to my weights and just doing 'active rest' on the other days?

I want to do what's 'right', but it doesn't feel like it's enough.
What would be considered active rest(without having it turn into something that would be considered a cardio workout)?

He also suggests to keep the cardio on upper body training days only. So..2 days of cardio a week? Is that right?

I'd like to get your thoughts/opinions on this article and what would be the best thing for me to do(best, as in, bst for not overtraining and just doing the right amount).

I thought this was answered pretty well on O2

An individual's personal exercise & dieting history is VITAL data when it comes to determining if they are overtraining.

What is normal for one person can be detrimental to another.

I think cardio is overrated. If I'm dieting, then for the most part, I'd just rather eat a little less.

For heart health, aggressive lifting/exercise should cut it without the need for all the extra cardio.

I like to do just enough cardio to be able to keep up with my kids and friends if we decide to play a sport or something. I'm not running any 10Ks on the spur of the moment.

Thanks for posting that link. The article really resonated with me on so many levels. I recently had to take a full week off from training all together and two weeks out of the pool due to illness (yeah, yeah, I know). I've increased my weights since the break and really enjoyed getting back in the pool.

Rest is critical. When I overtrain, I reach a breaking point... and get sick or injured.

i agree with Roland, except that i don't mind a day or two of cardio a day, and would rather work out more and eat more.

Yep, especially if a persons history involves an ED.
